Position: On-Call Food Service Helper - Edustaff
Reports To: Food Service Director
Pay Rate: $14/hour
Job Summary: The On-Call Food Service Helper is responsible for providing temporary, as-needed support to the Food Service Department in various school cafeterias within the district. This position assists in the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals, ensuring a safe and efficient food service operation. The On-Call Food Service Helper must be flexible, reliable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous food service experience is a plus, but not required.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Must be able to pass a background check as required by Michigan law.
- Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Food Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of food items, including washing, chopping, slicing, and assembling ingredients, following standardized recipes and portion control guidelines.
- Prepare and package food items for serving.
- Maintain proper food temperatures and ensure food safety standards are met.
Food Service:
- Serve food to students and staff in an efficient and courteous manner.
- Operate serving lines and ensure adequate food supply.
- Monitor and replenish food and beverage supplies as needed.
- Assist with setting up serving areas and condiment stations.
Sanitation and Cleanup:
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas according to established procedures.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchenware.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain a clean and organized kitchen and cafeteria environment.
- Dispose of trash and recyclables properly.
Inventory and Stocking:
- Assist with receiving and storing food and supply deliveries.
- Rotate stock and ensure proper storage of food items.
- Report any inventory shortages or discrepancies to the supervisor.
Other Duties:
- Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Adhere to district policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director.
- Be available to work on short notice.
Working Conditions: - Work is performed in a kitchen and cafeteria environment.
- Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, steam, and cleaning chemicals.
- May be required to work during school hours, including breakfast and lunch periods.
- On-call position with varying hours and days based on the district's needs.
