Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the efficient operation of the food service program in the assigned school under the direction and guidance of the cafeteria manager, school principal, and the Director of Food Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
Maintain accurate records and systematic accounting of all resources, including but not limited to labor, food, supplies, equipment and cash monies;
Comply with applicable regulations, to provide information needed for managerial decisions, and to safeguard all resources;
Maintain a favorable financial standing through proper management of all resources and through active promotion and improvement of the food service program;
Cooperate with the school administration, Director of Food Services, Food Services Manager, faculty, students, parents, and other school community members to make the food service program an integral part of the total school program;
Provide good public relations with all customers, co-workers, supervisors, community, and others contacted in the workplace;
Work with supervisors to select, train, direct, and evaluate each cafeteria employee in regard to assigned duties and personally assists with those duties as needed;
Direct and assist as needed with cleaning utensils and food service equipment, and assists in maintaining sanitary conditions in the dining areas, kitchen area, cafeteria storage areas, and in compliance with proper sanitation regulations and procedures;
Report any personnel, facility or maintenance problems to immediately to supervisor so that corrective action may be pursued;
Assist with the planning of the menu and the placement of orders following prescribed procedures;
Assist with and direct food preparation and service; insuring that quantities prepared are sufficient to meet demand and federal guidelines; that food is tasty and wholesome; that food is served attractively and at proper temperatures; that food is prepared economically; and that food is portioned properly in accordance with applicable guidelines and procedures;
Perform other duties assigned by the principal, food services manager, and director of food services, necessary for the proper operation of the food service program;
Performs related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to assume responsibility for operation of the food service program in the assigned school in the absence of the food service manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: High School Diploma
Preferred: Courses in food service management or related areas; at least one year of experience in food service with school food services preferred.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Work is typically performed in the school cafeterias and central office. Subject to a wide range of climate and temperatures - 100 degrees or below 0 degrees Fahrenheit while at school sites. Walks and stands on concrete floors for long periods of time while in school sites. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing for extended periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions for extended periods of time. Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
Occasional attendance to school related activities throughout the state is necessary. Daily contact is made with school food service personnel, students and teachers. Regular contact is made with the community. Job requires a valid driver's license.
