As a University Caterer, the primary responsibility is to assist in the preparation, presentation, and delivery of food and beverages at both university events and special functions. The role requires a strong focus on maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and customer service. The caterer will work as part of a team to ensure the smooth operation of meal services, contributing to a positive and efficient dining experience for students, staff, and visitors. Flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential for success in this role.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing and serving food and drinks according to event requirements.

• Ensuring cleanliness and proper maintenance of kitchen and event areas.

• Assisting with event setup and breakdown.

• Interacting with students and staff to provide excellent service and address any dietary needs.

• Adhering to food safety guidelines and university policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Food Preparation and Service:
  • Prepare and serve meals, snacks, and beverages according to event requirements or daily menu plans.
  • Ensure food is served at the correct temperature and in an attractive manner.
Customer Service:
  • Interact with students, staff, and event attendees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Address special dietary requirements and food preferences when applicable.
  • Handle customer inquiries and feedback in a professional and friendly manner.
Event Setup and Breakdown:
  • Assist with setting up food stations, dining areas, and event spaces before service.
  • Help in organizing utensils, tableware, and equipment for events.
  • Clean and break down event areas, ensuring all equipment is stored properly.
Food Hygiene and Safety:
  • Follow food safety and hygiene protocols to ensure compliance with health regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining area.
  • Ensure food is handled and stored correctly to avoid contamination.
Inventory and Stock Management:
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of food and catering supplies.
  • Assist in ordering supplies and checking deliveries as required.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation to minimize waste.
Cash Handling (if applicable):
  • Operate registers or POS systems, handling transactions accurately and efficiently.
Maintaining Cleanliness:
  • Ensure the kitchen, dining areas, and workstations are kept clean and sanitized at all times.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment as necessary.
  • Dispose of waste appropriately and ensure recycling procedures are followed.
Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other catering staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to meet event needs.
Adhere to University Policies:
  • Follow all university policies, including those related to health and safety, behavior, and work ethics.
  • Attend training sessions as required to stay updated on catering standards and procedures.
