Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven professional to join our team as a FOIA and Policy Administrative Support Specialist. In this role, you will support the processing of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and provide essential administrative assistance to the Director of Policy and Planning on all matters related to VOSH policy development and implementation. This position is a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful work that supports transparency, accountability, and workplace safety across the Commonwealth. This is part-time position without benefits. The incumbent is expected to work up to 29 hours/week, 1500 hours/year.

FOIA Support (60%)
• Review, redact, and sanitize VOSH and departmental records in response to FOIA requests.
• Ensure all redactions comply with the VOSH Administrative Regulations Manual, the FOIA Act, and agency policies.
• Prepare accurate and legally sound response correspondence outlining withheld information and legal justification.
• Maintain confidentiality of protected information and ensure timely, accurate, and legible responses.
• Track and meet statutory deadlines using the agency's FOIA procedures.
Policy and Administrative Support (40%)
• Provide administrative assistance to the Director of Policy and Planning on all VOSH policy initiatives.
• Draft, edit, and organize a range of policy documents and internal communications.
• Respond professionally to inquiries from internal staff, attorneys, public officials, employers, employees, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain and update FOIA request data in the IMIS system, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory timelines.
• Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for document management and reporting.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to:
• Learn and apply FOIA laws, VOSH policies, and procedures.
• Interpret and follow legal, policy, and regulatory documentation.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain high standards of confidentiality and accuracy under tight deadlines.
• Navigate civil litigation-related documents and processes.
Additional Considerations
• Paralegal certification or training is preferred.
• Previous experience supporting FOIA processes or legal/policy documentation in either government or private sector is a plus.
Special Requirements:
• Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of hiring or within 30 days of hiring. Position is subject to annual driver's license record check.
