Introduction

Our healthcare organization is seeking a skilled and experienced Float Medical Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support to both the front and back office, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

What is the Float Pool?

The Float Pool is a unique team that offers you the chance to work in multiple departments and locations, allowing for diverse experiences and the opportunity to adapt to different clinical environments. Successful candidates must have the ability to commute between our locations including: New Orleans CBD/Downtown, Metairie, Marrero and Uptown New Orleans

Responsibilities:

Front Office:

• Welcome patients warmly, manage intake forms, and efficiently schedule appointments.

• Navigate full-cycle patient registration, including insurance verification, eligibility checks, fee communication, and payment collection.

• Answer phone calls promptly and direct them to the appropriate department or individual.

• Collect and update patient demographic information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Clinical Duties:

• Prepare patients for examinations and treatments

• Vital Signs: Regularly monitor and record vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and urine analysis.

• Patient Needs: Listen to patients' concerns, questions, and needs.

• Provide empathetic support and ensure that any immediate concerns are addressed promptly.

• Information Relay: Share pertinent patient information with medical providers, and other team members.

• Other Duties Collect and prepare laboratory specimens - perform basic lab tests.

• Educate patients about their medication and treatments.

• Ensure the cleanliness of patient rooms and clinical areas.

• Compliance and Confidentiality:

• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and payor regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Diploma from Accredited Certified Medical Program
  • 2 years exp. in direct clinical care preferred
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge in Insurance Verification and Authorizations is preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Proficient with using medical office equipment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Nationally certified MA or completion of Certification within 6 months of obtaining the position required.
  • BLS/CPR Certification
