Recreational Sports recruits for a variety of group fitness instructors including Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Barre, Kickboxing, Pound, Step, etc. (Note: not all positions will be available at all times.)
Primary work location is on The University of Texas at Austin campus main campus (selected candidates may purchase a parking pass). Work hours may vary and are not guaranteed. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship. Position is hourly, fixed-term, non-benefits eligible and non-exempt classified.Hours limited to 19 hours/week, all UT/UT System jobs combined. Work hours for this position plus other state agencies not to exceed 40 hours/week.Employees are hired by the semester, generally with the possibility of continuation. Applicants who advance beyond the initial screening will be asked to demonstrate applicable group fitness instructor skills.
Responsibilities
- Teach in-person group fitness classes, utilizing strong communication skills and tactfulness to create positive workout and learning environments. Utilize strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills to demonstrate safe and effective fitness techniques. Offer and demonstrate a variety of exercise modifications to accommodate all fitness levels. Deliver excellent customer service when responding to questions or concerns from TeXercise participants. Utilize excellent problem solving, flexibility and adaptability when resolving customer complaints and equipment issues.
- Take initiative by conducting thorough inspections of equipment and programmatic needs in order to bring any pertinent comments, suggestions or concerns affecting the program, staffing and facilities to the full-time manager.
- Display a strong ability to work in a team structure and in an environment comprised of varied populations. Assist in the growth of new student fitness instructors in their journey to become an experienced instructor. Demonstrate leadership through mentoring other instructors and completing peer to peer evaluations. Actively participate in staff trainings, fitness workshops and meetings.
- Pre-record TeXercise classes for the On-Demand Program upon ask and approval from F/W administration.
- Hold a current Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED certification from the American Red Cross. Hold current nationally recognized and accredited Group Fitness Instructor certification required to instruct classes. Certification may vary depending on format of instruction.
- Demonstrate personal accountability and strong work ethic through punctuality, appropriate attire and program preparation. Leverage digital technologies ethically and efficiently to solve problems, complete tasks, and accomplish goals. These may include technologies such as Workday and other applicable softwares/technologies. Abide by university, departmental and area policies and procedures. Be responsive to manager's emails and other communications; keep timesheets up-to-date and accurate, and submit prior to the established deadlines. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- HS graduation or GED.
- All applicants,except those auditioning for Mind & Body formats, must holdonenationally accredited (NCCA) Group Fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, or other nationally recognized agency).
- Mind/Body Instructor Applicants: Must be currently certified through a nationally recognized organization-Acceptable organizations include (but are not limited to) Yoga Alliance, Peak Pilates, and STOTT.
- Specialty certifications/licenses for specific formats must be current and nationally recognized- i.e. Zumba, Pound, Beach Body Certifications.
- 0-5 years of applicable experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients to achieve a safe and effective workout.
- CPR/AED/FA certified by the American Red Cross (full in-person learning or blended learning course) is required; however, applicants may apply without this certification and obtain it - if hired - before their start date. Online certifications are not accepted. Blended Learning courses are offered at UT RecSports.

Salary Range $16.75/hour - $19.75/hour depending on qualifications
