Fitness Specialist-Independent Living-Part TimeI. BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Fitness Specialist is responsible for providing fitness services and programs to individuals and groups, promoting health and wellness, and ensuring a safe and positive exercise environment. This role involves conducting fitness assessments, orientations, developing personalized training plans, instructing exercise classes, and educating clients on healthy lifestyle choices. The Fitness Specialist ensures residents and guests have a safe, positive, and enjoyable experience. Flexibility in working evenings, weekends, and holidays as it relates to implementation/supervision of programming and interaction with our residents.
II. CUSTOMERS/CLIENTS SERVED BY POSITION: Residents, family members, and guests.
III. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field preferred. Certification in group exercise and/or personal training preferred. Current Primary Group Exercise certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization (e.g., ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA). Current Personal Training certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization (e.g., ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA). Current CPR certification.
IV. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum one (1) year proven experience as Instructor, Fitness attendant, or Fitness assistant in public or private employment. Experience in conducting fitness assessments and developing exercise programs for geriatric population (e.g. Berg, SFA, Gail). Experience/education in Aquatic instruction. Experience working with the geriatric population a plus.
V. SKILLS, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Current fitness instructor certificate. Excellent customer service skills require flexibility, initiative, creativity and reliability. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality under HIPAA regulations. Possess organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Computer skills with multiple software programs. Familiar with pool safety and water rescue protocol. Obtain and maintain Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Instructor certificate which includes basic water rescue training certificate every three years. Ability to work with geriatric population, medical professionals, families, and SV associate. Ability to motivate and inspire others. Ability to demonstrate exercises and fitness techniques effectively. Strong organizational and time-management skills. English language necessary. Able to pass annual physical and TB questionnaire/exam. Must have a current fingerprint clearance as required by our license. Positive mental and physical maturity. Ability to work with diverse populations of people and effectively communicate instructions.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES THAT MUST BE SAFELY PERFORMED WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION WIHTOUT POSING A DIRECT THREAT TO OTHER ASSOCIATES, RESIDENTS AND ASSOCIATE:WORK PERFORMANCE - job knowledge, quality, productivity, planning, creativity, initiative - Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments, including evaluating clients' health history, fitness level, and goals.
- Instruct land-based and aquatic classes.
- Develop individualized exercise programs tailored to clients needs, goals, and abilities, considering any physical limitations or health conditions.
- Monitor client progress, track results, and adjust programs as needed to ensure effectiveness and safety.
- Lead and instruct group fitness classes, workshops, and individual training sessions, demonstrating proper exercise techniques and forms for extended periods of time.
- Educate residents on the principles of fitness, fall prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Provide ongoing support, motivation, and encouragement to residents to help them achieve their fitness goals.
- Answer client questions and address concerns related to fitness and wellness
- Stay current with the latest fitness trends, research, and best practices through continuing education and professional development activities.
- Keep accurate records as mandated by the Fitness Program Coordinator. Record FC usage and all class attendance.
- During shifts, perform private new resident orientations to record necessary health history information for all new fitness program residents.
- Create exercise programs for residents and progress programs as needed.
- Ensure resident/family adherence to all fitness program policies, procedures, and membership agreements.
- Ensure residents/family are safely using fitness program equipment and free weights and tactfully suggest improvements for form and technique.
- Assists the Fitness Program Coordinator with implementing and leads in fitness and wellness activities such as seminars, wellness classes, incentive programs, contests, and the newsletter.
- Assists the Fitness Program Coordinator in leading health and fitness lectures and discussions.
- Assist with ambulation and safe transferring of residents from chairs, scooters, walkers, or wheelchairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Assist other departments when necessary and appropriately schedule around fitness responsibilities.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality, except when mandated reporting is required.
- Follow all HIPAA guidelines and requirements.
- Attend meetings, training, and workshops, as requested.
- Understands and embraces the role of volunteers; helps residents/family/guests/associate make connections to others and SV practices effective relationship-building techniques; understands the role of fund-raising in achieving SV mission.
- Contributes ideas for fitness programming and newsletter.
- Inspires resident commitment to exercise and healthy lifestyle choices by demonstrating a positive attitude and passion for fitness, wellness and helping others.
- Acts as a collaborator and demonstrate positive attitude and ability to work well with a diverse population of residents, guests, and associates.
- Must be able to lift and move machines and free weights. Must be able to participate in fitness activities.

MISSION, VISION, POLICY, AND REGULATIONS - SV Philosophy, Judgment, Adherence to policy - Familiarize self with Seacrest Village mission, vision, rules, policies and procedures and with the Jewish Tradition as observed by our residents, family, and guests.
- Observes safety regulations; to include but not limited to wearing appropriate safety equipment, reporting workrelated injuries, using proper body mechanics & responding to fire/disaster alarms and wearing security badge.
- Payroll/HR- uses the current computer system to follow timekeeping policy utilizing time clock to record all hours worked to include mandatory meal period of thirty minutes by the fifth hour of work and OT is authorized by supervisor.
- Wear appropriate clothing per facility and uniform policy to include name badge.
- As a matter of SV policy and federal and state law; attends HIPAA training, follows HIPAA confidentiality andprivacy policy, applies "minimum necessary" "needs to know" guidelines on all PHI information and reports non-compliance violations to Privacy Officer.
- As a mandated reporter per DOJ requirements, attends Mandated Reporter Abuse training meetings, will report all abuse incidents; physical, emotional, financial, sexual, verbal, completing the 1) SOC 341 form, mailing or faxing, 2) calling the ombudsmen and/or department of health services; for Assisted Living and Independent Living, call ombudsmen, and APS (adult protective services), and 3) informing supervisor so resident can be protected.
- Follow the corporate compliance standard and associate code of conduct, performing work with an ethical behavior and utilizing proper business conduct and professional practice, which complies with applicable laws, rules and regulations; as serving the residents, preserving the organizational reputation, maintaining resident/associate trust, community respect. Reports on non-compliance or concerns to Corporate Compliance Officer.
