Job Summary

TheHealth & Fitness Trainer is responsible for creating, growing participation,and delivering group and individual exercise activities (therapeutic,recreational, or athletic) within a retirement community. The Health & Fitness Trainer alsomaintains equipment in working order, ensures clean and sanitary exercise areas,and utilizes technology to document participants' condition and progress.

Essential Functions
  • Teachand promote health and fitness activities to residents from a variety of livingsettings (independent living, catered living, memory care, and more)
  • Developprogram offerings that are age-appropriate, safe, and effective in meeting thephysical needs of aging adults
  • Provideinstruction on the correct use of technique and equipment
  • Assessand document participants' abilities, needs, condition, and progress
  • Ensuresthat Health and Safety standards, rules, and regulations are enforced
  • Performbasic equipment maintenance and ensure clean and sanitary exercise areas
  • Otherduties as assigned
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Background in Gerontology, Physical Education,Health Education or related field preferred
Licensureand Certification
  • Post-secondary certification required (i.e.Geriatric Health and Fitness certificate, certification as a Stay Active &Independent for Life (SAIL) instructor, certification as a CognitiveStimulation Instructor, etc.)
  • Certification and/or membership with the AmericanCouncil on Exercise (ACE), AAAI/ISMA, American Sports and Fitness Association,IDEA, NASM, etc
  • Active CPR and First Aid certification
SpecialTraining and Skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with excellentcommunication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with calendar, scheduling,communication, and data base software
  • Knowledge of instruction and learning strategies
  • Passion for engaging with aging adults
  • Advanced knowledge of health and fitness for agingadults
WorkExperience
  • 1 - 3 years' of experience in leading health and fitnessclasses for aging adults

Salary Range: $29.08 to $41.90 per hour
