Position Summary: Provides safe instruction in fitness areas such as various levels of cardiovascular training including: high/low impact aerobics, step training, belly dancing, toning, tai-chi, Pilates, NIA, spinning, dance, martial arts, and yoga, etc. Educates members on safe techniques and guidelines of exercise. Works with participants to achieve their exercise goals. Interacts with members before and after exercise sessions, while addressing questions and needs. Works directly under the supervision of the Fitness & Wellness Supervisor &/or Community Center Manager.
Essential Functions: - Facilitate participants through safe and effective fitness classes that focus on participant needs and goals.
- Prepare routines within the confines of safe and proper exercise techniques.
- Make modifications for beginner, intermediate, and advanced movements as needed.
- Educate and monitor exertion of class participants throughout the duration of each class.
- Refer patrons to areas of personal training, specialty classes, injuries, or other health education.
- Assess class evaluation and adjust to fit wants/needs of patrons.
- Be prompt and prepared to begin classes on time and in an organized fashion.
- Remedy personal absences by finding and confirming substitutes for missed classes.
- Continue to inspect and organize equipment and communicate equipment needs to supervisor.
- Attend staff meetings and in-house clinics.
- Record class attendance

Education, Training & Certifications: Necessary: - High School/GED
- Certifications: Current Group Fitness or area of expertise of class hired to teach; Current CPR/First Aid/AED
- Preferred Bachelors in an area closely related to health, wellness, exercise, and sport science, and fitness.
Desired: - Experience teaching group fitness preferred.
Necessary Physical Requirements: Requires muscle exertion and/or physical strain and frequent concentration on participants. Requires extended periods of hearing and speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time.
