Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for preparing and teaching group fitness classes to a culturally and physically diverse population of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other members. The Group Fitness Instructor is capable of teaching a wide variety of classes as long as it is approved by the Fitness Coordinator.

Primary Duties:
  • Individual class preparation
  • Teaching fitness classes
  • Equipment maintenance and inventory
  • Participating in weekly deep cleans of the studio
  • Promotion of Campus Recreation programs, fitness center, and fitness classes through marking, social media, tabling events, word of mouth, etc.
  • Track fitness participant attendance through IM Leagues app
  • Safely motivate fitness class participants
  • Properly exercise risk management strategies
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a current or incoming CSS student
  • Federal work study eligibility is required
  • CPR/AED or First Aid certified, or complete Campus Recreation's mandatory certification within 1 month of hiring
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
  • Previous participation in group fitness classes or organized sports
  • Experience teaching a minimum of 1 group fitness class, or personal training experience
  • Common knowledge of popular exercise accessories and proper uses of each
  • Availability to teach a minimum of 1 fitness class per week for an entire semester
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, effective verbal communication, strong leadership skills, and the physical ability to demonstrate class exercises
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A well-developed background in exercise physiology, human anatomy/physiology, biomechanics, and basic exercise principles
  • Current certifications such as NETA, ACE, AFAA, or similar
  • Specific experience in teaching multiple fitness classes in a domain of high-intensity interval training, strength training, yoga, pilates, cycling, or other
Special Instructions:
  • Interview process will include teaching a mock fitness class to current BWC employees and Fitness Coordinator
  • Upon hiring, all instructors will be required to attend Fitness Instructor Training
  • $13.50 for non-certified instructors or $15.75 for certified instructors
