SUMMARY: The Finishing Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, documentation, quality and maintenance of the finishing and coating processes for Crenlo Engineered Cabs off-highway cab products. The scope of the Finishing Engineer includes responsibility for all aspects of the paint process for production e-coat, powder paint, and liquid spray lines. Qualified candidates will be responsible for managing quality issues, departmental capital expenditure, new process qualifications, and customer compliance. Additionally, the Finishing Engineer will coordinate cost reduction initiatives, manufacturability reviews, corrective action closure, development and specification of fixtures and tools necessary to build the product, assessing the safety of the processes and methods used to ensure a safe work environment, developing the project plan for manufacturing implementation, and leading the implementation of new products. The candidate will also be responsible for identifying new technology to maintain a competitive advantage. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead the effort to improve safety in the facility. Provide leadership and project management skills to successfully implement focused process and product improvements within the paint department. First point of contact for communications and delegation of new and existing paint projects. Document and detail paint procedures and processes to assist manufacturing. Concept and maintain all testing and compliance of coating integrities to meet customer and internal requirements. Utilize proven lean manufacturing based analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, lead-time reduction, inventory reduction, and quality improvements. Assist in leading Product Development Process for all new and existing programs. This includes the development of floor plan layouts, cost justification for new equipment, documentation and troubleshooting of new and existing processes. Implement and document improvements to manufacturing efficiencies, takt time, floor space utilization, and safety. Evaluate existing tools and processes and recommend improvements that enhance operator performance, ergonomics, and safety of the overall operation. Gather and maintain records to ensure environmental compliance and proper reporting of all hazardous materials and environmental regulations. Maintain and update existing procedures and documents related to e-coat system, robotic conveyor paint system, small conveyor paint system, and batch paint lines. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related field is required. WORK EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 years of related industry experience in manufacturing work environment. Demonstrated experience with coatings, finishing products, and industrial painting. Experience with project management, process improvement, lean manufacturing, and problem solving. KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: Engineering background required with focus on coatings preferred. Ability to show documented results in achieving cost reductions to both products and processes. Strong computer and programming skills. Excellent communication skills and a team mentality are necessary. Ability to manage personnel and projects. WORKING CONDITIONS/OTHER: Repetitive manual movements and keyboarding are required. Sustained visual concentration on small areas, such as monitors and screens is required. Sitting, standing, and frequent walking is required. Work environment is both office as well as shop floor (at least 50 -50) where numerous processes (cutting, welding, grinding, press brake forming, painting, and assembly) are under constant operation. Shop conditions include frequent exposure (30 - 60%) to noise, odors, dust, drafts, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, and hazardous substances.
