Summary of Position:

The Controller leads all accounting and financial reporting functions for a dynamic, mission-driven Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) focused on serving homeless and underserved populations. This role oversees grant and general accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management. The Controller ensures the integrity of financial systems and internal controls, aligning practices with GAAP standards and promoting organizational transparency, sustainability, and fiscal responsibility. This position partners closely with the CFO and executive leadership to support informed decision-making across the organization.


Essential duties:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Oversee the organization's general accounting, financial reporting, and statistical reporting functions in accordance with internal policies and GAAP.

Lead, develop, and supervise a high-performing accounting and reporting team. Provide coaching, support, and performance evaluations to foster professional growth.

Design and implement systems and procedures to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of all revenue sources, including government grants, philanthropic contributions, and programmatic revenue.

Manage financial data infrastructure and reporting processes to support timely grant reporting, regulatory compliance, and organizational planning.

Direct monthly, calendar year, and fiscal year-end close processes, ensuring adherence to deadlines and accounting standards.

Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including vendor onboarding, invoice processing, approval workflows, and payment execution.

Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, management reports, Uniform Data System (UDS) reports, AHCCCS reconciliations, and the IRS Form 990. Support and coordinate the annual financial audit and implement recommendations as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Basic Knowledge and Skills:


Required Qualifications:

Minimum age: 21 years old

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline

Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles

Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), nonprofit accounting systems (Sage Intacct or equivalent), and EHR/PM systems (AthenaHealth or equivalent), payroll systems (Paycom or equivalent)


Preferred:

Minimum of 5 years in a leadership accounting role such as Assistant Controller, Controller, or Director of Finance within a healthcare or nonprofit organization

Master's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation

Prior experience managing audits and government grant reporting


Physical and Mental Requirements:

Position requires extended periods of sitting and standing.

Position requires regular bending and reaching, including transfer of patients.

Good communication skills.
