About the Job:
The Controller will oversee the hands-on management of the accounting department while collaborating with the senior financial management team to drive the company's strategic financial growth. We're seeking a motivated professional eager to step into financial management and grow with us long-term. This role is perfect for someone looking to build a career in construction finance and take on increasing responsibilities over time.
This is an on-site position based in our Orlando, FL office.
Highlights of the Controller opportunity:
• The Company is a fourth-generation family-owned construction company providing construction management and general contracting services as well as being recognized as an industry leader in Cast-in-Place Concrete Work
• Growth: Over the past several years the company has experienced consistent growth and is looking to continue the expansion of their business; despite this growth, they have maintained a very close-knit, family culture where there is little turnover.
• Role: Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, you will be both a hands-on and strategic position, helping grow and develop the finance and accounting team members while supporting and guiding ongoing organizational growth.
• Exposure: the candidate will be expected to provide business and operational analysis, strategic insight, and tactical financial support to be an effective business partner.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, under the distinction of the VP of Finance:
• Support the day-to-day financial management of the company's accounting function including month-end close, managing accounts payable and job accounting activities, assist with the annual audit and submission of government and related tax returns.
• Provide financial and operational metrics and analytics to senior management.
• Develop and implement business process improvement initiatives and strategies.
• Increase the company's ability to anticipate business issues and drive good decision-making through sound financial management.
• Develop guidelines and processes corresponding to the growth of the company.
• Assist with compilation of information for the company's auditors and advisors for annual audits and tax preparation.
• Continually review accounting policies and procedures to ensure that the company is compliant with GAAP and statutory accounting.
• Look for opportunities to reduce cost
Qualifications:
• 3-10 years of experience in accounting and finance.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or similar discipline.
• Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
• Extensive knowledge of financial and cost accounting; experience in construction, real estate, or similar industries is preferred.
• Familiarity with both union and non-union payrolls in a multi-state environment with experience in related tax, union, and other required compliance reporting.
• Strong people skills, an accomplished leader who can delegate effectively as well as develop and motivate staff.
• Able to assess situations quickly, examine alternatives and make decisions while maintaining high levels of accuracy and consistency.
• Extensive knowledge of computer software applications, including Procore, Textura and Sage (Timberline).
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills to communicate the company's overall financial position effectively to senior management and stakeholders.
