Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller with extensive experience in the construction industry to join our team. The Controller will play a vital role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction-specific accounting practices, including project-based accounting, job costing, and WIP (Work-In-Progress) reporting, as well as strong leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to senior management and stakeholders (Source: MC24 Job Search Guide US eBook.pdf).
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction-specific accounting standards.
- Construction Job Costing & Budgeting:
- Manage project-based accounting and maintain accurate budgeting, job costing, and WIP reporting.
- Collaborate with project managers to review and update cost estimates, profitability analyses, and variance reports.
- Streamline processes for tracking expenses attributed to individual construction projects.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to maintain strong internal controls and risk management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including the preparation of tax filings relevant to construction businesses.
- Cash Flow & Financial Planning:
- Oversee cash flow management and forecasting to ensure funding for operational and project needs.
- Assist senior leadership with strategic financial planning and decision-making, incorporating insights specific to the construction industry.
- Team Leadership & Development:

- Promote collaboration with cross-functional teams such as project managers, estimators, and executives.
- Technology & Process Improvement:
- Evaluate and implement accounting and ERP software systems designed for the construction industry.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a management role.
- Demonstrated expertise in the construction industry, including experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and contract revenue recognition.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP systems.
