About the Company: Our client, a publicly traded alternative asset manager, is seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient finance leader that thinks strategically and collaborates effectively to help optimize finance and accounting operations while supporting the long-term growth and success of the company.
About the Role: The Financial Accountant's responsibilities include preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing tax returns, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. To be successful as an Accountant, you should have prior experience with off-balance-sheet financing (OBSF), loan accounting and servicing, a solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and strong financial analysis skills. You should also possess strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work with little to no supervision and perform under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for day-to-day accounting and loan servicing.
- Prepare financial analyses, reports, and statements; review with relevant team members and provide explanation and back-up for variances.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports
- Lead the preparation of complex journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assist in managing the monthly close calendar, ensuring deadlines are met and coordinating deliverables across departments.
- Assist with GAAP financial statements, and regulatory financial filings, including the preparation of supporting documentation.
- Responding to audit and tax teams requests as part of the quarterly reviews, annual audit, and tax return.
- Conduct technical accounting research and provide guidance on the implementation of new accounting standards
- Assisting with preparing and monitoring budgets.
- Develop and improve accounting processes and procedures; stay on top of technology and systems trends that may contribute to efficiencies and/or process improvement.
- Collaborate with internal teams on the development, implementation and maintenance of internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
- Support the success of the team by actively participating in monthly meetings; sharing best practice knowledge; collective problem solving; mentoring; and similar practices of highly engaged team members.
- Performing other accounting duties and supporting junior staff as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Current CPA certification or actively pursuing CPA certification
Experience:
- 1+ years of public accounting experience in similar role
Skills:
- Experience in financial statement production, including balance sheet; income statement; and general ledger
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Strong financial analysis skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Working knowledge of federal and state tax laws/regulations
- Working knowledge within Microsoft Dynamics 360 (Business Central)
- "Big 4" audit experience
