Field Technician - Building & Industrial Automation

This role is essential to launching, installing, and supporting complex building automation and control systems across mission-critical environments. Focus:
- Install, test, and troubleshoot field automation hardware and control systems in commercial and mission-critical facilities.
- Provide field commissioning and integration support for PLC and SCADA systems, including instrumentation and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Partner with engineering teams to bring automation designs from blueprint to execution on active job sites.
- Support QA/QC verification activities, ensure accurate documentation of as-built conditions, and maintain job site organization.
- Participate in system verification testing, validate software/hardware functionality, and support client acceptance and handoff procedures.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to report progress, escalate issues, and document field observations.
- Prepare daily updates and technical documentation, including markups, progress notes, and deviation reports.
Skill Set:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or a related technical field, OR
- Two years of field experience in automation installation, plus an additional five years of hands-on experience with PLC/SCADA infrastructure.
- 5-8 years of experience supporting industrial automation systems in the field.
- Hands-on expertise with Allen Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, or similar).
- Skilled in reading and interpreting construction plans, shop drawings, submittals, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities across building automation, energy management, and mechanical control systems.
- Comfortable in dynamic, fast-paced job sites, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions and requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience reporting to clients and internal teams.
Preferred Experience:
- Familiarity with SCADA systems such as Ignition or equivalent platforms.
- Background in HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems (e.g., chilled water, sensor arrays, relays).
- Experience with QA/QC and commissioning processes in industrial environments.
- OSHA or NFPA70E certification (or ability to obtain).
