Job Summary The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, remove and replace, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of GPS OCX equipment at the deployed remote sites and operational environments around the globe. This role requires medium-to-advanced technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to develop and implement solutions to complex system failures. This position will travel globally to support maintenance and operations recovery efforts, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of equipment across multiple locations. Primary Responsibilities Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and information technology systems
Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and longevity
Analyze equipment performance data and recommend modifications or upgrades to enhance efficiency and recovery
Coordinate travel planning and execution for 17 remote sites, to include travel to foreign countries
Exercise independent judgment in assessing system risks, recovery, and corrective actions
Utilize and redline established maintenance procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and program protocols
Document maintenance procedures, service reports, and technical recommendations
Act as a primary maintenance advisor to government customers and internal teams while on-site and in planning meetings
Manage projects related to equipment installation, upgrades, and long-term maintenance strategies
Coordinate with engineering, logistics, and subject matter expert teams to source replacement parts and implement design improvements
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry best practices
Develop and/or determine appropriate maintenance in conjunction with system administrator travel teammate
Support other operations and maintenance tasks at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB) when not traveling, as required
Act as custodian for COMSEC material to safeguard, transport, and utilize at required remote sites
Other duties as assigned by supervisorMinimum Qualifications Minimum 5 years of experience in electronic systems or hardware troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair. Prior foreign travel highly desired, with ability to obtain passport and visa travel
Strong knowledge of hardware components and remove and replace maintenance
Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, procedures, and wiring diagrams
Experience working independently in field environments with minimal supervision
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to follow established procedures
Ability to travel internationally up to approximately nine times within a calendar year
Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for electrical, hardware, and mechanical systems
Ability to develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies
Technical writing skills for updating maintenance procedures and travel reports
Strong analytical skills for assessing equipment performance data
Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills
Ability to climb and work at heights (roof tops, antennas on masts or sides of buildings)
Ability to complete required training, to include heavy lift, climb, Electrostatic Discharge/Foreign Object Damage, Department of State country clearance training, export/import control and IPC-A-620 cable and wire harness assembly
Security + certificationPreferred Qualifications Experience with hardware maintenance and associated tools
Knowledge of networking and remote diagnostics for equipment troubleshooting
Familiarity with international travel and work conditions
Familiarity with quality assurance witness requirements
Previous experience providing training or mentoring junior techniciansWork Environment/Physical Requirements This role requires extensive travel, both domestically and internationally, often to industrial or manufacturing sites
Work conditions may include exposure to loud machinery, high-voltage equipment, and varying temperatures
Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or outdoors depending on job assignments
Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required based on site-specific safety protocols
Ability to adapt to different cultural environments and work independently in remote locations
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week. Greater than 40 hours per week may be required, dependent on operational needs and while on travel. May require occasional travel to Aurora, Colorado, for training, meetings, and/or logistic coordination
