Family Office Tax Controller Position Overview
We are looking for a progressive-thinking, motivated individual to join our team as the Family Office Tax Controller. A great candidate will have passion for their work and share in our drive to seek excellence in all we do. Integrity and honesty are key values for all employees who work here.
As a true finance business partner advising our team, you will work onsite and will have a critical role in shaping our success. You will serve as the onsite tax and accounting leader for our Family Office and will be responsible for the financial oversight of the office. You must be a self-starter, motivated, adaptable, and a leader. The position requires daily presence. The Family Office Tax Controller will be a skilled navigator, expertly guiding the financial ship through day-to-day operations and solving problems. This person will ensure timely closing and reporting of financial results and financial forecasts.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Planning, Taxation, Decision Support & Performance Advisory
- Demonstrate understanding of businesses and operations including analysis and planning of budgets, cash flow, and balance sheets.
- Lead the annual planning and budgeting process for the family office and associated entities.
- Lead the preparation of all individuals, C-Corp, S-Corp, Foundation, LLC and Trust tax returns.
- Conduct complex financial analyses and provide strategic tax-related financial advice.
- Execute financial forecasting and support tax strategy development.
- Assist with the annual audit and ensure regulatory compliance for our Special Metropolitan District.
- Lead the preparation of annual personal and entity financial statements.
- Interface with Deloitte Tax LLP with our tax work.
- Contribute to management meetings to help drive the goals and objectives of the family.
- Develop, enforce, and evaluate accounting policies and procedures in conjunction with business needs. Recommend process improvements.
Financial Operations & Governance
- Execute the daily financial and accounting operations of our office.
- Implement cost controls and ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax regulations.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, reporting, and variance analysis.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Performance Management & Reporting
- Develop and deliver regular financial reports for key family members.
- Advise on strategic opportunities and provide recommendations to improve financial outcomes.
- Monitor project financial performance, identifying trends and opportunities for cost optimization.
- Manage all accounting and tax work.
- Train and mentor office manager/bookkeeper
- Must have the ability and experience to model and manage the accounting and tax work of the office.

Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA required
- 15 years of relevant accounting/finance experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), financial controls and tax preparation.
- Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with tax software, Drake Software a plus.
- Experience in family offices, tax preparation, real estate, and development projects is highly valued.
- This role is on-site 5 days a week.

Competitive Compensation
- Annual salary range $175,000 - $200,000 with an annual performance bonus.
