NURSE PRACTITIONER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Nurse Practitioner
Reports to: Chief Medical Officer
Job Status: Full-time
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Summary: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will plan, direct, and evaluate patient health care in clinical health
services; examine and treat chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other
injuries/illnesses; performs selected laboratory testing; offer referrals to physicians, write prescriptions, and
perform office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. The Nurse
Practitioner will work with and under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.
Essential Functions:
Examines patient, takes medical history, records results, and makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on
follow-up procedures.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests, blood work, and interprets test results.
Performs therapeutic procedures such as immunizations, injections, and managing infection.
Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with medical director concerning appropriate
treatment.
Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs, and counsels patients and records progress.
Prescribes medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations.
Provides health education regarding health maintenance especially in the realm of STD prevention.
Prescreens cases requiring review by the Chief Medical Officer.
Participates in staff meetings, planning meetings and other meetings as needed.
Participates in the program's ongoing quality assurance monitoring.
Subject to Peer Review
All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.
Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical
acts.
Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state.
Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching
and have a master's degree.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Access, data entry, and email.
Bilingual in Spanish or Farsi preferred.
Certification and Licensure:
Completion of accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing Program and valid LVN license.
Valid BLS/CPR certification.
To be in good standing with Medical Board of California.
Work Environment:
Fast-paced environmentally controlled medical office environment.
Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, government officials,
patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting, writing, typing, grasping, and speaking.
Occasional standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Frequent use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone.
