Kistler Family Medicine Residency program is seeking an experienced board-certified Family Medicine physician as Program Director at Geisinger Primary Care South Wilkes-Barre, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Located in Wilkes Barre, PA you are just 2 hours away from either Philadelphia or New York City.
Job Duties
Each year, six family medicine residents are trained under the supervision and direction of the Family Medicine Residency Program Director. The residents work in the Geisinger Primary Care South Wilkes-Barre clinic and rotate throughout Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, which is ranked in the Fortune/Merative Top100 Teaching Hospitals.
The Program Director is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and the general administration of the Family Medicine Residency Program sponsored by Geisinger Health System. The Program Director establishes the strategic direction of the program and is responsible for the standards, quality and reputation of the Family Medicine Residency Program. The Program Director is expected to integrate the Family Medicine Residency Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality, and that promotes an optimal environment for professional practice and graduate medical education.
Requirements include:
- Requisite specialty expertise and documented educational and administrative expertise acceptable to the review committee.
- Current certification in the specialty by the American Board of Family Medicine.
- Current medical licensure and appropriate medical staff appointment.
- Active involvement in the care of patients. Prior to assuming this position, a minimum of three years full-time professional activity in family medicine, as well as teaching experience in a family medicine residency is required.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement the curriculum for the residency program.
- Evaluate and mentor residents throughout their training.
- Ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation standards.
- Recruit and retain high-quality faculty and residents.
- Oversee the residency program budget.
- Manage residency program policies and procedures.
- Coordinate clinical rotations and schedules.
- Facilitate resident research and scholarly activities.
- Organize and participate in recruitment activities, including interviews and open houses.
- Maintain records and documentation related to the residency program.
- Foster a positive learning environment and culture.
- Collaborate with hospital administration, primary care service line leadership and other departments.
- Conduct regular program assessments and make improvements as needed.
- Serve as a liaison between residents and faculty.
- Address resident concerns and grievances.
- Ensure residents meet all graduation requirements.
- Work with the Academic Chair of Family Medicine to ensure quality medical student experiences and faculty appointment.
