We are a small Family Law Firm seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and experienced paralegal to join our Firm. You will help draft legal documents such as declarations & motions, prepare briefs, conduct legal research for trial preparation, and keep case files and other important information neatly organized and easily accessible.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with attorneys to prepare legal documentation, pleadings, and correspondence such as: petitions, interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and declarations
- Help lawyers prepare for trial by preparing and organizing exhibits, assisting with client meetings, filing motions, conducting research on legal articles, and organize and coordinate witnesses
- Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls and keeping our case filing system organized so all documents are readily accessible
- Conduct initial interviews with clients to gather information about their legal issues
- Coordinate law office activity, including the drafting subpoenas and coordinating with process servers
- Assist other paralegals and attorneys with mailings and filings
- Communicate with clients regarding the status of their case
Qualifications
- At least 1 years of experience in legal services under an attorney in a law firm setting as a paralegal (preferred Family Law experience)
- Required 1+ years of Family Law experience preferably in California
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in software technology, Microsoft Office, tools and case management tools
- Knowledge and experience with California Code of Civil Procedure
- Well versed in Family Law legal terminology, laws, judicial decisions, court jurisdictions, and procedures, and Family Law knowledge
- ABA-approved paralegal certificate program, such as an Associate's degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies
- Must have a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education
- Experienced in Case Management systems (MyCase preferred)
Pay is based on experience and education.
