PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Family Coordinator will work collaboratively with families, education staff, and community partners to ensure that the program meets th eneeds of the whole child and supports parents/guardians in addressing family needs and setting and achieving family goals.
QUALIFICATIONS: - License: N/A

- Required - Associate's Degree
- Preferred - Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Social Services, or related field, Illinois Seal of Biliteracy.
- Experience:
- Required - Two (2) years' experience in community outreach programs.
- Preferred - Three (3) years' experience in school-based outreach programs. Spanish fluency, both written and conversational.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: May perform any combination of the essential functions listed.
- Coordinates family meetings and workshops to educate families in the areas of child health and child development. Plans and provides parent workshops and family involvement activities.
- Educates families about the importance of regular attendance and connects families to resources as appropriate.
- Works in conjunction with District School Resource Officers and Lake County Regional Office of Education to identify and support students whose attendance classifies them as Chronically Absent.
- In collaboration with school MTSS team, monitors attendance patterns of truant and Chronically Absent students and reaches out to the families of these students on a regular basis in an effort to get them back in school.
- Processes truancy letters weekly by regular mail and/or certified mail in collaboration with school attendance clerks.
- With the Technology Department, maintains an electronic data tracking system and updated notes detailing the work on each student and family case.
- Documents all parent communication and contact in the student management system (e.g., Skyward) in the Notes section on the Attendance tab.
- Creates activities to increase attendance in schools.
- Identifies and develops potential partnerships with community entities with access to priority populations.
- Collaborates with teachers and instructional leaders to engage families in the classroom and school, including meaningful volunteer opportunities. Ensures that the school maintains a welcoming environment for parents/guardians.
- Engages families in a Parent Advisory council inclusive of a diverse range of family perspectives
- Supports communication with families in their home language, when possible, or facilitates translation when needed
- Maintains clear, written case notes that document's family needs and goals. Provides resources to address those needs. Participates in problem solving team meetings and conducts home visits as needed.
- Works collaboratively with the Communications Manager to analyze the effectiveness of communication and propose innovative visual communication approaches, mediums, and technology that enhance the districts' ability to engage diverse internal and external audiences in a cost-effective manner.
- Assists the Communications Manager and other administrators in the creation of effective, visually appealing, professional, and timely two-way communications through a variety of communication vehicles including video, audio, online, and print to ensure communication to all stakeholders.
- Assesses family needs and refers families to community resources to support comprehensive needs.
- Participates on school MTSS team to support families with resources and wrap-around services.
- Connects parents with Lake County agencies to support a variety of supports for families.
- Develops and maintains a network of relevant community agencies.
- Attends Open House, Curriculum nights and all evening events involving school families.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct in alignment with the Parent/Student Handbook and PBIS in order to provide for a safe, orderly, productive environment.
- Works cooperatively with the staff to ensure a smooth transition between schools for students and families.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional development activities.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
- Demonstrates responsibilities in completing duties accurately and promptly.
- Attends and participates in team, department, faculty meetings, and professional development.
- Adheres to all school and district policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality.
- Performs other such duties and assumes other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal.
OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.
- Be available beyond typical school hours, when necessary, attend required meetings and provide outreach programs when our community is able to participate including beyond the school day and school year.

- Maintain confidentiality of student/staff information in the department and in the community.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Technical: Ability to communicate effectively in English and preferred in Spanish verbally and in writing. Knowledge of general office procedures, English usage and punctuation. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
Interpersonal: Liaison with individuals being served to discuss any unclear points. Must be able to work collaboratively with a team. Must be able to work harmoniously with students, parents, staff, and administration, and community members. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills. Ability to meet established deadlines. Ability to work with school age children and their families. Ability to complete paperwork in a timely manner. Must be able to make difficult decisions that impact the organization in a positive sense. Must also be a creative problem solver; empathetic, humanistic and open-minded.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some close coordination performance.

Working Conditions: Some exposure to definitely disagreeable elements may exist, i.e., temperature changes, use of steps/stairs, walking long distances throughout the building, etc. Must be available evenings, weekends and non-student attendance days as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 176 days; must be available evenings, weekends, and non-student attendance days as needed.
