Facilities Technician

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API molecules located in Lebanon, IN (Lilly Lebanon API). This facility is Lilly's largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the processes and facility to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.


Main Purpose and Objectives:


The Facilities Technician is part of the Lebanon Plant 1 API Manufacturing team and provides technical support for the facility and contracted services in coordination with the engineering and maintenance groups within the site engineering organization. The Facilities Technician role is responsible for the daily workflow activities and ensures the site's contracted services deliverables are executed safely, and efficiently to support the site production goals and business agenda. This role will ensure facilities are available, clean, maintained, & repaired to the applicable standards.


In the project delivery and startup phase of the project (startup expected 2025 to 2027), the facilities technician role will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to a full scale GMP manufacturing through start up.


Key Responsibilities:


Daily Operations


  • Responsible for facilities support and work completion process for both scheduled and reactive work.
  • Oversees and inspects the work performed by outside contractors. Contracted work may include landscaping, snow removal, fitness center, cafeteria, special events, pest control, solar fields, pond management, maintenance, recycling, waste management, etc.
  • Use of information systems to complete work (i.e., Maximo, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Issues Work Permits, performs lockouts, provides contractor escorts, contractor audits, and service acceptance.
  • Responsible for environmental sampling and facilities inspections.
  • Rapid response for outages (pipe break, elevator outage, road closures, etc.) and to contain, minimize, and communicate information regarding the outages.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work directly with contractors, and understanding of requirements of fire cards, safe to work, line breaking, and confined space
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose process problems and take appropriate actions to minimize deviations or site impact.
  • Maintains site safety, GMP, data integrity, and Environmental Standards.
  • Completes tasks and associated documentation timely with little to no errors.
  • Maintain 100% compliant training records for all required training.


Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE)



Responsible for personal safety and the safety of those who are affected by your work.

  • Must be able to recognize hazard conditions, take appropriate workplace safety measures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment to suit work environment.


Ensure all potential injuries of operations personnel are reported immediately.


Implement safety initiatives and action items.


Ensure compliance with all HSE regulatory commitments and SOP's.


Basic Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of manufacturing, mechanical, utilities, grounds, or facilities maintenance experience
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. and to climb a ladder.
  • Basic computer skills (desktop software) are required.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to temperature variations while performing work outside in winter and summer weather conditions.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to work outdoors.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Completion of Post Offer Exam or Completion of Work Simulation if applicable.

Additional Preferences:

  • Solid understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP requirements.
  • Emergency Response Experience
  • Industrial, military, volunteer, career firefighter
  • Indiana State or IFSAC Certification - Fire 1, Hazmat Technician
  • Previous experience in facility/area start-up environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize, set objectives and meet targets.
  • Ability to provide high level customer service.
  • Ability to provide coaching and feedback.
  • Proven ability to make good use of systems, procedures, & processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle and prioritize multiple requests.
  • Ability to work within a team, make independent decisions, and influence diverse groups.
  • Good analytical/critical thinking skills.

Additional Information:

  • The Facilities Technician role is for 12-hour shift days or nights, or 8-hour M-F shift. However, shift flexibility is a requirement of this position as job responsibilities include weekends, holidays and overtime.
  • This role may involve some non-scheduled call-in time to respond to plant emergencies or be required to provide support outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • At times, the Facilities Technician may need to travel offsite to other Lilly locations, other pharmaceutical companies, conferences, or off-site training.
  • Tasks require entering manufacturing areas which require wearing appropriate PPE
  • Awkward positions, cramped quarters, ladders, and scaffolding work will be required at times

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$21.27 - $46.88

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
