External Communications Manager Marketing Department
The External Communications Manager is responsible for crafting and amplifying Dexian's brand narrative through strategic media relations public relations and cross-channel content strategies. This role also provides secondary support to internal and broader corporate communications ensuring consistent aligned messaging that builds trust with both external audiences and employees. Reporting to the Senior Manager Communications this individual serves as a collaborative partner across company departments and other marketing functions including HR DEI legal B2B/B2C digital and executive leadership to ensure messages are accurate timely and aligned with business goals.
This position does not currently have direct reports but is expected to lead cross-functional efforts and manage external-facing projects with a high degree of independence and influence.
Primary Responsibilities: External Communications
Media & Public Relations
- Own and execute media outreach plans that elevate the brand in industry and general media securing placements and building long-term journalist relationships.
- Draft and edit press releases executive statements and media toolkits prepare leadership for interviews and speaking engagements.
- Maintain a proactive media calendar monitor news cycles for timely opportunities and track PR performance metrics such as impressions sentiment and engagement.
- Manage applicable agency relations as assigned.
Reputation & Crisis Communications
- Work closely alongside the digital team on the implementation of the Reputation Management strategy including creating review responses executive messaging and issue escalation workflows.
- Partner with Legal HR the digital team and senior leadership to manage and draft responses for sensitive topics or crises across platforms including BBB Glassdoor and Indeed.
- Track and report on reputation trends and performance collaborate with digital and social teams to ensure consistent messaging.
- Create and manage the crisis and BCP communications plans and SOPs for Dexian.
- Act as an advisor to leadership on response communications as assigned.
Cross-Functional & Digital Alignment
- Collaborate with the digital operations social media and B2B/B2C teams to ensure consistency across earned owned and paid media channels.
- Create or guide the development of content including award announcements thought leadership pieces sales enablement tools blog posts and one-pagers that support business goals.
- Support external-facing communication campaigns tied to events initiatives or company milestones.
Event & Campaign Communications
- Provide pre- during- and post-event communications support for high-visibility external events and speaking engagements.
- Draft compelling narratives for key campaigns and integrate earned media strategies into marketing programs.
Metrics and Reporting
- Track and analyze performance of media placements reputation efforts and external communications campaigns using appropriate tools and internal dashboards.
- Provide regular reports with insights and recommendations to optimize communications strategy and demonstrate impact across earned owned and shared channels.
- Partner with the Sr. Manager Communications to contribute to quarterly and annual performance summaries for executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Secondary Responsibilities: Internal Communications Support (as assigned)
- Support the Internal Communications Manager and Communications Coordinator in the development of timely clear and culturally aligned internal communications that build employee engagement and reinforce the company's mission and values.
- Assist in content creation for internal newsletters Teams announcements and campaign communications tied to HR DEI and Operations initiatives.
- Partner with the broader comms and marketing team to help execute response strategies for world events and company-wide moments of significance.
- Collaborate with graphic designers the social media team and the video teams to create visually aligned multi-format content.
- Help write executive communications recognition messages and internal FAQs as needed.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Bachelor's degree in communications public relations journalism marketing or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5+ years of progressive experience in public relations media communications or external/internal corporate communications.
- Exceptional writing editing and storytelling abilities across formats and audiences.
- Adept at managing multiple projects in fast-paced deadline-driven environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across teams and functions.
- Strategic thinker who can execute tactically and contribute to both proactive and reactive initiatives.
- Familiarity with PR measurement tools Microsoft Office Adobe Creative Suite and email publishing platforms.
- Portfolio of 5-6 writing samples demonstrating external and/or internal communication experience.
