Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a non-tenure track Executive Director of University Libraries and Librarian Professor faculty position in the University Libraries with a preferred start date of July 1, 2025. This is a twelve-month contracted position. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.
Responsibilities The Executive Director of University Libraries is the chief administrator for the University Libraries, which include the Horace W. Sturgis and Lawrence V. Johnson Libraries at KSU. The Executive Director reports directly to the Associate Vice Provost, who oversees University Libraries and Museums, Archives & Rare Books and has the following responsibilities, at a minimum:
- Provides operational and administrative leadership and oversight of the University Libraries including budget, policy development, supervision of faculty and staff, and supporting student and faculty success and research.
- Recruits and leads high-quality faculty and staff and creates an environment which supports professional advancement.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of library programs and services to meet the growing needs of students, staff, and faculty.
- Communicates effectively and transparently with faculty, staff, students, the campus and community partners to support KSU's strategic plan, mission, and vision to build the University's reputation for national prominence.
- Ensures sound fiscal management of the University Libraries resources.
- Provides oversight for the development and maintenance of the library collection and services to foster a vibrant learning community.
- Collaborates with support units to maximize space utilization and provide optimal working and learning.
- Advocates for student success and faculty research by advancing a welcoming, service-oriented environment and maintains collections and services that advance teaching, learning, research, and creative activity.
- Monitors national trends in libraries and instructional technology.
- Develops strong partnerships with colleges and other units on both the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses, as well as with students, faculty, staff, community organizations, and other institutions regionally and nationally.
- Supports development efforts to enhance Library programs, collections, operations, and facilities.
- Leads or serves on division and university committees and task forces to promote the University Libraries and KSU and participates actively in local, state, and national library organizations.
- Enforces policies and regulations adopted by the USG and KSU.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- An earned terminal degree (an ALA accredited masters degree), or the foreign equivalent, appropriate to a contemporary research-intensive library.
- An academic background and appropriate credentials to be a Librarian Professor in the University Libraries.
- 10 years of professional experience in an academic library or related institution.
- 5 years of strong administrative leadership and successful management experience.
- Demonstrated record of successful stewardship of fiscal and technological resources.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with departments and schools, support units, and the campus community.
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
- An ability to champion, empower, and inspire staff and faculty at all levels and in all roles; a commitment to transparent communication that offers forums for input and shared governance; and a successful history of recruitment, retention, development, and team building.
- Demonstrated skill in envisioning, developing, and advocating for an academic library's role in campus, statewide, regional, national, and international initiatives.
