Summary:

Breast Connect, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients by empowering them to become their own best advocates through relevant information, resources and community, seeks a dynamic Executive Director with nonprofit, executive and fundraising experience.


Background:

Breast Connect is a 10-yr old nonprofit organization located in Knoxville TN. Breastconnect.org, provides supportive information and tools for women navigating their breast cancer journey. Information includes general content on breast cancer, surgery tips, questions to ask their physician, and everything in-between to help newly diagnosed women improve their quality of life and achieve better outcomes. We provide free chemotherapy and radiation care packages and work with local cancer support organizations to send flowers and mastectomy kits to women undergoing surgery in the East TN area. We currently have 2300 members in our private Facebook group where members ask questions and provide experiential insight that educates and informs, advocates and empowers women. These members represent women who are survivors (short and long-time), newly diagnosed, and those living with metastatic breast cancer. Members also include caregivers and the medical community. We hold up to 6 social and educational events a year


We have an active board of directors, one part-time administrative assistant and a contracted bookkeeper. The Executive Director will supervise a part-time Director of Development yet to be hired, but approved for the FY2025 budget. We are currently moving to the Neon One CRM platform.


The Executive Director candidate must reside in the Knoxville TN area.


Job Requirements:


Leadership

Create and assist in implementation of the organization's strategic plan including expansion into other markets


Bring expertise and vision to grow and develop the infrastructure of the organization


Develop policies and procedures for the organization


Find, vet and expand the Board of Directors and manage staff members


Develop and implement an outreach plan to garner and maintain relationships and partnerships with medical providers and other non-profits that assist with the mission and help increase awareness of the organization.


Be an authentic, trustworthy, knowledgeable and empathetic voice and spokesperson for the company


Supervise current programs including Sisterhood Program, Care Package Program, and Flowers with Random Acts of Flowers


Monitor the Facebook Private Breast Connect group and memberships


Develop and supervise new programs; create the Advocate Program


Cultivate relationships and collaboration with other national peer organizations, attend appropriate conferences


Track and analyze data including memberships, numbers supported in each program, volunteer hours, donations, and outreach


Fundraising

Develop a comprehensive fundraising plan with the Director of Development and the approval of the Board of Directors


Supervise the Director of Development on donor development and fundraising activities to ensure fundraising revenue goals are met


Oversee and grow Breast Connect's two established fundraising events each year


Create and oversee fundraising committees


Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors as well as corporate and foundation donors


Supervise and support the application of grants


Fiscal Management

Develop the organization's annual budget for Board approval


Work with the Treasurer to maintain all financial records in accordance with federal and state laws

Provide quarterly YTD-Budget reconciliation to Board


Strategic Planning & Board Governance

Actively engage with the Board to fulfill Breast Connect's mission


Identify opportunities and development planning for strategic growth and improvement of the company


Communicate effectively with the Board, providing timely and accurate information and reports to help make informed decisions


Maintain all legal documents, licenses, certifications, and contracts necessary for Breast Connect to operate as a nonprofit


Ensure the Board understands and if needed, is trained on policies


Communications

Oversee and implement, with the Director of Development, a communication plan that includes marketing, content, promotional materials, and social media


Serve as the spokesperson to the public and media


Identify and procure resources needed to develop annual promotions and events calendar


Possess superior writing and verbal communications skills that are clear, concise, articulate and persuasive that will enhance organizational visibility


Skills and Experience - Required

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Public Administration, or Nonprofit Management


A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization with experience in management, administration, public speaking, public relations, volunteer and Board Member recruitment, fundraising proficiency, marketing, and development planning


Strategic and creative thinking with strong problem-solving skills


Exceptional communication, interpersonal, public speaking and writing


Experience with Adobe, Microsoft, WordPress, Survey Monkey, Canva, Mailchimp or similar software. Proficiency in most social media platforms. Experience with Neon One a plus or other similar CRM software


Strong leadership and management skills; Ability to work independently

Compensation

Salary and overall compensation will be commensurate with the experience and background of the successful candidate. Salary range is $70,000- 85,000 for 40 hours per week.


This is a remote position with office location, which could include a small amount of travel and no health insurance.
