EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Organization Overview
Southeast Bronx Neighborhood Centers Inc. (SEBNC) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 multi-service agency that has served the Morrisania section of Bronx, New York since 1929. We serve multi-ethnic populations that are rich in diversity and cultural heritages. We offer programs and services for all ages, including infants, school-aged children, young adults and the developmentally disabled.
Position Description and Essential Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide thoughtful and visionary executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the organization's mission. Oversight of day-to-day business operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations.
The essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP & ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Oversee all departments including Fiscal, Human Resources, funded Programs, Marketing &/or Fundraising; fostering a culture that encourages collaboration between departments and recognizes positive contributions.
- Supervise the Associate Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, Human Resources Director.
- Develop & present strategic plans for organizational impact within the community, drive its implementation and gain Board approval as needed to carry out the work of the mission of the organization.
- Organize, motivate, and mentor internal team leaders to strategically grow the organization's impact, programs, fundraising, and to effectively fulfill its important mission.
- Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements to analyze and support strategic decision-making.
- Inspire a business-oriented, professional, results-driven environment across the organization.
- Establish goals, objectives, and operational plans in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff and other leaders.
- Ensure the organization is operating in compliance with all laws and regulations; in addition to adhering to the highest ethical standards possible.
BOARD GOVERNANCE
- Maintain regular and ongoing effective communication with the Board, providing leadership, support, and all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Attend all Board meetings, provide reports and updates on current work, project timelines and progress; as well as the organization's progress.
- Plan and prepare meeting structure and information for Board meetings in coordination with the Board Chair.
- Gracefully manage the Board as needed to build consensus, reminding them of outstanding deliverables and offer support.
- Inform the Board of changes in staffing levels, donor and successful campaign details; as well as working with them to develop strategic solutions to any issues that may arise.
- Work closely and openly with the Board and its committees, ensuring ongoing communication of risks, issues and successes.
- Supply the Board with the technological tools for conducting collaborative meetings, communicating outside the boardroom to streamline work and maximize impact.
DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDRAISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Initiate, cultivate and maintain strong relationships among peers (industry associations) and key stakeholders; as well as with the organization's portfolio of individual, foundation and corporate supporters.
- Attend and/or host fundraising events and new program commencements.
- Drive development and fundraising in collaboration with the Development Manager/Director and Board members; including oversight of all aspects of grant writing.
- Represent the organization by serving as chief spokesperson publicly at events, conferences and partnership meetings.
- Set the strategy to achieve outcomes, ensuring quality and effectiveness of programs, setting behavior expectations for internal personnel.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION
- Ensure the organization's fiscal integrity, financial stability and sustainability by directing and working with the CFO to maintain a healthy cash flow and adequate reserves.
- Provide strategic leadership and hands-on management for all the administrative and operational functions of the organization in accordance with the mission, objectives and policies.
- Prudently direct resources and oversee all financials within budget guidelines and in accordance with current laws and regulations.
- Ensure maximum resource utilization and budget management to keep the organization in a positive financial position.
Qualifications and Skills
Must have an MBA ; as well as an MSW/MA/MSED degree in early childhood education, child development, public administration, or social/human services and 6-8 years related work experience.
At least 4 years of work experience should be in upper-management and/or administration, preferably in a team setting. Experience working with the intellectual/developmentally disabled populations required . In-depth knowledge of early childhood development issues, child care administration and the needs of families and children preferred. Experience working with diverse low income population preferred.
Knowledge of strategic planning processes, systems change and facilitative leadership. Knowledge of City, State & Federal childcare and early learning systems. Knowledge of NY State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities policies. Knowledge of admissions processes. Strong familiarity with diverse business functions such as Marketing, Public Relations, Human Resources, etc. Ability to read and understand financial documents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required; including public speaking, training and presentation skills. Excellent listening skills with the ability to give and receive feedback.
NY State Drivers' License required.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Ability to see at normal distance, hear normal conversations and sounds. Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on floor, climb stairs, skip and run. Use hands and fingers to fill out required forms on regular paper and use computer keyboard and other office machines/equipment. Ability to safely and occasionally lift up to 50lbs., when needed.
Other Requirements
Must submit to job-pertinent examinations including tuberculosis test and criminal record background checks. Employment is conditional pending satisfactory results of required tests, etc.
Salary Range & Benefits: $190k - $220k annually. SEBNC offers a benefits package that includes: paid holidays, PTO (vacation, personal, sick); health, dental & vision and pension plan.
