Hybrid - Portland, OR

5-10 hours/week to start, ramping up to 20 hours/week by Summer 2025

We're looking for a motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented person to join our small, collaborative team as an Executive Assistant / Assistant Director. This part-time role is ideal for someone looking to get their foot in the door in the world of documentary television, public media, and environmentally focused storytelling. You don't need film or TV experience to apply-just a can-do attitude, strong communication skills, and a passion for meaningful work.

This is a hybrid position that starts remote and flexible, that will grow into a more involved role (20+ hours/week) by summer 2025. At that point, we'd love to have you in our Portland office 1-2 days per week, but long-term hybrid work is absolutely an option. There is real potential for growth in this role.

See how to apply section at the bottom. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.

About the Role

As our Executive Assistant / Assistant Director, you'll primarily support the Executive Producer/Director with personal and administrative tasks, helping keep operations running smoothly. As the role grows, you'll also take on light production and social media support, with plenty of opportunities to learn and contribute creatively if that interests you.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing calendars, email correspondence, and scheduling appointments

  • Supporting special projects and coordinating events (like film screenings)

  • Helping track administrative deadlines and organize files

  • Data entry and liaising with our accountant and bookkeeper

  • Assisting with client invoicing and paperwork

  • Posting and scheduling social media content

  • General administrative support for the production team

Who You Are
  • Exceptionally organized and communicative with an interest in climate change and science because that's the focus of the show we produce.

  • A self-starter who can manage time independently and juggle multiple tasks

  • Curious and eager to learn about production, storytelling, or climate/environmental work

  • Comfortable with Google Workspace and light data entry

  • Based in Portland and able to be in the office 1-2 days/week starting mid-summer 2025. The office time is flexible, this could be multiple half days or as little as one full day.

  • Bonus if you have experience with social media platforms or interest in documentary storytelling.

Why Join Us?

We're a small, mission-driven team working on PBS Weathered , a successful PBS series about extreme weather and the climate-how it's changing and how to prepare. The series is broadcast nationally and also lives online through PBS, YouTube, and social media. It's been running for five years and continues to grow in reach and impact.

We're committed to creating socially and environmentally positive media and fostering an inclusive, collaborative workplace culture. We work four-day weeks for most of the year and value work/life balance. You'll be working directly with our Executive Producer and have access to a close-knit team of experienced producers and editors.
