        This is a temporary or on-call position. Provides support for concerts, sporting events, outdoor functions and related University special events. Duties may include working at an assigned station in a concession stand; preparing and dispensing refreshments; transporting, maintaining and arranging supplies, equipment and materials; operating a cash drawer; assisting with parking enforcement; acting as an event usher; and similar event related responsibilities. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

        Unit Position Summary

        The Henry Center for Executive Development was voted "Best Meeting Facility in Michigan" by the readers, editors, and publishers of Michigan Meetings & Events Magazine. We are a conference center located on the campus of Michigan State University that specializes in providing meeting and event space for professional development programs and events. Our goal is to provide top-notch customer service and advanced technology to our clients.

        As an Events Worker, you will be tasked with assisting in the daily operations of the building and ensuring that our clients receive the best possible service. Some of the daily tasks include:

        • Greeting clients at the front desk
        • Reading and interpreting Banquet Event Orders
        • Interaction and communication with conference center staff
        • Setting up and testing wireless microphones
        • Setting up portable 75" TV's, projectors, AV carts
        • Assisting clients with setting up videoconferencing calls (Zoom & Microsoft Teams)
        • Assisting with basic PC and computer issues (connecting to Wi-Fi most common)
        • Monitoring Lecture Capture recordings (adjusting PTZ cameras, audio levels)
        • Organizing and maintaining technology assets
        • Explaining and teaching clients how to use technology
        • Daily administrative tasks in MS Office
        • Light cleaning as assigned

        Position requires extended periods of moving throughout the building.

        Desired Qualifications

        This position requires individuals that have excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for excellent service. Must be available to start work as early as 7 a.m. Must be available to work both weekdays and weekends. Must be willing to work at least 20 hours a week. Flexibility with work schedule; hours as agreed with General Manager and Tech Manager. Business professional attire will be required at times.

        Successful candidates will demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, experience with delighting customers, strong initiative, as well as a strong interest in learning the Henry Center's processes and applying the knowledge. Must be willing to learn new technology and audio visual (training and support provided).
