Taylor Hopkinson is in search of an Estimator/Preconstrcution Manager to join a leading EPC specializing in utility-scale photovoltaic solar projects. It was established through a joint venture between a European renewable energy infrastructure leader and a well-known local electrical subcontractor in the United States. This partnership brings together international experience and local expertise to deliver efficient, reliable, and scalable energy solutions. This role will focus on preliminary design, supplier and subcontractor price requests, and the development of technical and economic proposals. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate bidding processes for multiple PV projects.

  • Liaise with internal departments (planning, engineering, legal, etc.) for proposal preparation.

  • Prepare preliminary designs for photovoltaic plants.

  • Request and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Communicate with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors both in person and via Teams.

  • Conduct measurements and estimations using software such as PVcase, Terabase, etc.

  • Create technical and economic proposals.

  • Review technical specifications and annexes in contracts.

  • Support negotiations related to technical contract annexes.

  • Conduct site visits when necessary.

  • Manage software tools for production and performance calculations, such as PVsyst and SAM.

  • Lead the preparation of technical and financial proposals for photovoltaic projects, ensuring all necessary data is compiled and analyzed.

  • Work closely with departments such as planning, engineering, and legal to gather information and ensure alignment during the proposal process.
  • Develop preliminary layouts and schematics for PV plants using relevant software tools.

  • Solicit and compare quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring technical alignment with project requirements.

  • Maintain ongoing contact with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors; participate in meetings in-person and via Teams.

  • Perform site assessments and quantity take-offs for labor and materials.

  • Integrate technical and cost components into well-structured proposals.

  • Analyze technical specifications and annexes within contracts to ensure compliance and feasibility.

  • Provide technical input to support negotiation of contract terms and annexes.

  • Visit project sites to gather data and validate proposal assumptions.

  • Engage with clients and vendors in their offices, on-site, or virtually to gather information and align expectations.

  • Attend trade shows, training courses, and software updates to stay current with industry trends, tools, and equipment.

Experience Requirements

  • Must have 4-7 years in a similar estimator or preconstruction role, ideally within the solar PV industry in the U.S.
  • Degree in Technical or Higher Engineering
  • Technical Skills :AutoCAD or similar, PVsyst, PVcase/Terabase, Microsoft Office, BESS Systems
  • Able to travel about 25%
  • Must be available to work in office 5 days a week from Dallas, Tx.
