About the Role
The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of experience in estimating, a strong understanding of industrial, manufacturing, and commercial mechanical systems and equipment, proficiency in estimating software, and excellent communication skills. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to develop precise cost estimates and contribute to ensuring project success.
Responsibilities
- Takeoff quantity of items from mechanical drawings.
- Input takeoff (quantity survey) to prepare accurate and complete estimates.
- Obtain scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assist in the bid review process and attend turnover meetings, among other tasks.
- Conduct job site surveys and meetings with contractors, facility managers, owners, and other stakeholders.
- Analyze historical data, help prepare budgets, etc.
- Develop thorough and accurate cost estimates for industrial, manufacturing and commercial mechanical systems, and process piping covering labor, materials, and equipment.
- Examine project drawings, specifications, and related documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Utilize estimating software tools to prepare bids and proposals efficiently and accurately.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to produce complete and competitive estimates.
- Review and evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals to secure the best value for the project.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities to enhance project cost-effectiveness.
- Assist in shaping bid strategies and presenting detailed proposals to clients.
- Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to align expectations and project goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience estimating mechanical projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, process piping, mechanical equipment, manufacturing facilities and industry norms.
- Proficient with estimating software (such as Accubid or similar platforms).
- Skilled at interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop accurate, competitive bids.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, ability to manage time effectively, and juggle multiple bids at once.
- Familiarity with local codes, industry standards, and best construction practices.
