SUMMARY

Is responsible for providing second-level support in connection with the specification, maintenance, and repair of all campus vehicles and utility equipment. Provides general groundskeeper maintenance for large commercial structures and small residential properties as assigned. Under limited supervision, administers preventative maintenance and facility management processes related to such assignment

Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Inspect, maintain, and repair (directly or through contracted resources) all utility, passenger, and commercial vehicles. Maintains grounds equipment, tools, and supplies.

Inspect drivetrain, chassis, and electrical systems for correct operation, aesthetic appeal, and safety. Confer with external resources for insight on repair technique, materials, and part standards.

Inspect drives, motors, belts, fluids, and filters. Consult manufacturer's recommendations to construct and follow a preventative maintenance program for critical assets. Clean, label, inventory, and otherwise maintain equipment in good working order. Document checks and maintenance performed in daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly records.

Perform maintenance and maintain service records. Coordinate service plans and contracts with vendors.

Perform corrective measures to equipment failures. Design, fabricate, or procure, and install solutions that prolong the useful life of the equipment.

Maintain a safe, welcoming, resourceful, and efficient work environment.

Mow grass using hand and power mowers; rake leaves; maintain athletic fields.

Use necessary equipment to maintain trees, shrubs and plants; remove leaves and weeds.

Operate sweepers in cleaning drives, walks, and parking lots.

Clean manholes and catch basins

Schedule watering of lawns and plants.

Pick up debris from site.

Schedule work to minimize customer and financial impact.

Confer with customer communication channels within the department to notify college employees and students of pre-planned or emergency service disruptions or abnormal utility performance.

Conduct efficiency and lifecycle analysis of installed systems; calculate payback and make recommendations to management for budgetary consideration.

Assist and direct engineers and contractors when designing systems or performing work for college projects.

Maintain parts and tool inventory in an orderly fashion that is easily retrievable by others when the need arises.

Repair systems using industry best practices; keep skills current and relevant through training and certification.

Procure items using college standard purchasing practices. Leverage technology to do the same.

Respond to work with a timely, professional, respectful, and proactive approach.

Work to obtain permits as required by law and/or building code.

Assist staff and teams within the Facilities Department with work requests, projects, and daily operations as needed.

Operate snow removal equipment including snow brush, truck/plow, and shoveling as needed.

Responsible for understanding, supporting, and actively demonstrating the College's beliefs, values, mission and vision and being in agreement to be evaluated by same.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:

Internal: Daily contact with Team Leader, frequent contact with college personnel including staff, administrators and faculty in daily work assignments.

External: Contact with vendors and suppliers of material and/or equipment. Contact and assist outside contractors performing work at the college. Contact with local and state municipalities regarding inspections and compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Minimum

advanced knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems repair on a variety of powered equipment and vehicles

basic features within Microsoft Office (Word, Excel - current version)

Windows operating system (current version)

Licensed in aerial man-lift and special construction equipment with ability to operate equipment

construct mounts and assemblies to hold items that are heavy, pressurized, or vibrate

Education and Experience:

Minimum

High School diploma or G.E.D. required

Five years of related experience

Preferred

Associates degree

Ability to present a positive image of the college and the Facilities Department in relationship with others and in one's personal habits. Neatness in one's personal habits and dress in accordance with tasks.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, shop drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, area, flow calculations, pipe sizing, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid driver's license, Class A CDL (with air brake)

Ability to have both close and distance vision and reasonable depth perception. Able and willing to work in inclement weather.
