EHS Manager - Heavy Civil Construction (Mining Site)

Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to support a heavy civil construction project at an active mine site. This is a seasonal, field-based position running from May through November. The ideal candidate will have prior mining or heavy civil experience and possess MSHA Part 46 and/or 48 certification or be willing to obtain it.
This role requires a safety-first mindset and the ability to lead, enforce, and promote a strong safety culture on-site. The EHS Manager will report directly to the Construction Manager and work closely with subcontractors, project teams, and client representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and enforce EHS compliance across all aspects of the project
- Conduct and document daily safety inspections and site audits
- Deliver site-specific orientations and EHS training to all site personnel
- Oversee safety compliance for all heavy equipment and mining activities
- Facilitate Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA) reviews and toolbox talks
- Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Ensure contractors and workers are properly trained and adhere to safety standards
- Monitor and analyze safety data and trends, report findings to leadership
- Review and support development of EHS plans, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies
- Serve as the liaison with the client's safety/risk management team
- Maintain documentation and records per MSHA/OSHA guidelines
- Support positive safety culture through engagement and incentive programs
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of EHS experience in construction, mining, or heavy civil projects
- MSHA 46/48 certification strongly preferred (or ability to obtain before start)
- Relevant EHS certifications (OSHA 30, OSHA 510, OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, STSC, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations
- Proven leadership and incident prevention skills
- Excellent communication and documentation capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety reporting software
- BS or MS in Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field preferred
