Summary

The Enterprise Data Architect is a member of the King County Department of Information Technology's (KCIT) Data & Analytics division. This role provides enterprise-wide leadership, design, and consultation to continuously improve data and AI platforms, delivering business value and supporting essential business functions.

Job Duties

Expanding Enterprise-wide Data Capabilities - 80%
•  Provide architecture guidance and solutions for developing data and AI platforms.
•  Architect solutions for structured, semi-structured data, and unstructured data.
•  Analyze existing source systems and requirements to design and implement new data platforms and data repositories (e.g., operational data stores, data warehouses, data lakes, registries, clearinghouses).
•  Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure that data requirements, data services, and data structures are addressed as part of KCIT's solution development lifecycle.
•  Collaborate with data modelers, data engineers, and analytics developers to orchestrate comprehensive and forward-looking solutions.
•  Plan and configure appropriate data processing workflows and schedules (e.g., real time, near-real, batch, etc.) to optimize speed, performance, and up time.
•  Hands on development in prototyping and implementation of new technologies.

Leading and collaborating - 20%.
•  Serve as the technical lead and act as a bridge between business teams and technical teams. Including partners.
•  Foster collaboration in cross-functional project groups, driving continuous improvement and projects to completion.
•  Act as a representative of KCIT, championing our strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives.

•  Identify opportunities for work allocation and mentorship to foster skill growth and diversification within the team.
•  Assist project teams with Architecture solutions and presenting them in review forums. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
•  Seven years of experience in a senior technical role as a data architect working on enterprise data repositories on cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
•  Five years of experience acting as a lead for data analysis and modeling activities working with business customers.
•  Two years of experience in developing and deploying products using agile methodology.
•  Advanced data modeling skills including conceptual, logical, and physical in a wide variety of schemas and formats (e.g., entity/relational, NoSQL, dimensional, data vaults, etc.).
•  Advanced understanding of linking and integrating data across domains and blending semi-structured and structured data.
•  Well-versed in architecture principles for building complex and scalable data architecture.
•  Hands-on experience in prototyping solutions and developing minimum viable products (MVPs).
•  Extensive hands-on experience in developing and deploying major data platform implementations, including requirements gathering.
•  Extensive experience with APIs and API integrations. including REST.
•  Experience with business intelligence tools, including the data prep and blending capabilities of each (e.g., PowerBI, etc.).
•  Experience in object-oriented programming, ideally in Python, PowerShell, and SQL.
•  Ability to develop strong working relationships with business and technical teams in developing and implementing new data warehouses, data marts, etc.
•  Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, gaining their trust and respect.
•  Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization from individual contributors to leadership or the technically oriented to the business oriented.
•  Strong understanding of industry standards for data security, privacy, and risk management.
•  Experience in designing scalable architectures and microservices that integrate AI services, including deploying models and ensuring real-time processing, is a plus.
•  Experience in designing data pipelines for AI-based applications, including the creation of efficient data ingestion and preprocessing systems, is a plus.
•  Knowledge of Informatica is a plus. Desirable Qualifications:
•  Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals.
•  Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals.

Hybrid Work

The work associated with this position will be performed through a combination of onsite work and telecommuting. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Work Schedule

The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is FLSA Exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay.
