Engineering Technician
Job Type: Contract till July 1, 2026, with high possibility of extension)
Location: Jackson, MI 49201
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (In-office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday Remote: Wednesday, Friday)
Position Summary:
The Engineering Technician will provide technical and engineering support across a variety of utility-related projects. Responsibilities include coordinating with internal departments, supporting engineering design processes, conducting field investigations, and maintaining utility infrastructure standards. This role involves both office and field work, with hands-on learning and mentorship from senior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with project engineering, design, and process research.
- Provide field technical support and assist in the coordination of utility system upgrades.
- Create purchase requisitions and track engineering services invoices and forecasts.
- Complete learning modules and participate in mentorship programs.
- Perform field visits and collaborate with field operations as needed.
- Support engineering activities such as plan review, inspections, data collection, system planning, environmental assessments, and construction observation.
- Administer and maintain infrastructure systems and generate related reports and documentation.
- Participate in meetings with contractors and third-party firms to ensure compliance and gather feedback.
- Interpret and apply utility industry standards, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Follow and contribute to departmental procedures and standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate Degree in a Technical or Engineering discipline (Required)
Experience:
- 2-4 years of experience in technician or engineering support roles (Required)
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Windows applications.
- Basic understanding of utility operations.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems using existing tools and processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Broad interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and data sheets.
