About the role:

The engineering manager is a key role, reporting directly to the chief executive officer. The successful postholder will be responsible for the strategic management of all bridge and highway engineering assets including maintenance, repair and improvement across a varied and complex portfolio, to ensure safe, sustainable and continued use by our 10 million customers every year.

What will you be doing?

As engineering manager at the Humber Bridge, you will:

• lead the strategic management of all highway engineering assets, overseeing maintenance, improvement and long-term planning
• be responsible for developing and implementing asset management strategies
• lead a multidisciplinary team, managing inspections, procurement, and performance in line with budgetary and operational goals

• play a pivotal role in safeguarding the bridge's long-term integrity

• ensure the highest standards of health and safety, legal compliance, and risk management while guiding the delivery of complex, high-value projects
• provide clear, timely information to senior stakeholders
• support business-wide excellence through collaboration, transparency, and innovation
• provide technical leadership and people management, including mentoring staff, supporting STEM initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement

About you:

You'll be a qualified and experienced engineering professional with a strong track record in leading and delivering multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects, with in-depth knowledge of long-span bridges, asset management, commercial awareness, and proven leadership. You will also have excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills to ensure success in this role.
