Engineering Manager - Autonomy Software San Francisco
We've partnered with a fast-growing company in AI-driven automation that is seeking an Engineering Leader to develop highly advanced autonomous vehicle solutions, enhancing safety, efficiency, and scalability in industrial applications.
In this position, you will lead the strategy, development, and deployment of autonomy software for autonomous machines, overseeing a team of talented Software Engineers
(Perception, Planning, Localization, etc.)
You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Systems, and Hardware teams to define technical and performance requirements aligned with product roadmaps and business goals.
Own the full autonomy software lifecycle-from concept through simulation, prototyping, validation, and deployment-ensuring adherence to safety, reliability, and regulatory standards. Drive system-level performance improvements through simulation-driven development and field validation.
Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary engineering team. Foster a fast-paced, innovative culture focused on execution, accountability, and continuous improvement. Balance speed vs. rigor in delivering autonomy solutions at scale.
Key responsibilities include resource planning, budget management, risk mitigation, and aligning engineering output with aggressive timelines and evolving business needs.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience developing autonomous systems, with real-world deployment
- 3+ years in technical leadership, managing cross-functional autonomy teams
- Expertise in perception, localization, planning, navigation, or controls
- Strong background in C , Python, and safety-critical systems (e.g. ground robotics standards)
- Familiarity with Machine Learning (ML) and autonomy simulation environments
- Proven ability to operate strategically and tactically in dynamic, startup-like environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder alignment skills
Salary:
$200,000 - $250,000 + equity
