About the role
As the Engineering Director, you are the business leader for your area, focused on customer success. You will be responsible for achieving financial targets through effective planning, forecasting, operational delivery, and leadership of three key teams - Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) Design, Climate Change Engineers (CCE), and Energy Services.
You should be proficient in all M&E design stages (RIBA 1-7), condition surveys, sitework activities, EV Infrastructure, Solar PV, and relevant consultancy projects. A good understanding of Climate Change Agreements & Legislation (CCA & CCL), Public Sector Decarbonisation Schemes (PSDS), Low Carbon Skills Fund (LCSF), Heat Decarbonisation Plans (HDP), Energy Audits, and Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is essential.
You will shape our service offerings, collaborate with clients on technical needs, provide technical expertise, and support product development and strategic planning to stay at the forefront of industry advancements.
Key Responsibilities Engineering Business
- Manage departmental budgets for M&E Design, CCE, and Engineering Services, ensuring profitability and target achievement.
- Develop and maintain a revenue-generating services pipeline.
- Foster technical partnerships for growth.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies, developing viable service solutions.
- Guide projects from feasibility to operation, ensuring compliance with design requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments on engineering initiatives.
- Set KPIs for service quality, customer satisfaction, and team performance.
Leadership
- Execute tasks delegated by the COO.
- Lead and mentor three teams, promoting growth.
- Inspire and coach teams to deliver excellent customer service.
- Conduct performance reviews and development planning.
- Ensure team members stay informed about products and services through training.
- Hold regular team meetings to support success.
- Complete HR tasks in line with company policies.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
Skills: Extensive experience in energy reduction, strong leadership, excellent communication, and attention to detail in design.
Knowledge & Qualifications: Technical expertise, knowledge of industry regulations, engineering degree, professional registration (CIBSE/IET), and ideally Chartered Engineer status.
Experience: Over 10 years in technical leadership, project management, and design software proficiency.
