Summary: The Network Engineer 3 is the IS&S network support team member technical lead assigned to handle the advanced troubleshooting of networking technology and reviewing new technology to be implemented. This person supports the CMS Wide Area Network (WAN), the school Local Area Network (LAN), routers, switches, wireless access points (APs), and the site data closets. The Network Engineer 3 is the person Network Engineer 1 and 2 calls upon after initial response/diagnosis of any problem reported as network needs advanced technical support.
Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)
For all assigned schools/administrative sites:
- Installation and Maintenance for NMS Solarwinds, Desktop Toolset, Network Servers etc.
• Will serve as Networking Trainer and knowledge base for all things network related
• Will review CMS network security practices and new emerging technologies
- Installation/maintenance of access points (APs) and
- Installation/maintenance of switches and routers
- Maintenance of data closet to adhere to departmental standards
- Manage Projects (software, hardware, firmware updates)
- Priority 1 ticket: top tier technical support and liaison with vendor
- Troubleshooting, root cause analysis
- Documentation - "how to" guides, required ticket system information, site configurations, other documentation as assigned/requested
- Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily active/mobile. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations (including typing). The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights (up to 40 pounds). The work requires frequent activities involving driving automotive equipment.
