Job Summary:
This seasonal, part-time position involves practical office and field work of moderate complexity in support of engineering projects. Key tasks include quality control for road construction projects, construction surveying, and GIS data collection. The role provides an opportunity for hands-on experience in both office and field settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Note: This list is not exhaustive; additional duties may be assigned.
  1. Assist engineering staff in the inspection of road construction projects.
  2. Conduct GIS data collection and inventory tasks.
  3. Participate as a survey crew member, performing topographic, boundary, and construction surveys using traditional, robotic, and GPS surveying instruments.
  4. Perform various office tasks as assigned related to engineering.

Education and Experience:
  • Completion of a one-year certificate from a college or technical school preferred.
  • Three to six months of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Training Period:
  • Up to 6 months, excluding orientation, to gain full familiarity with job-specific conditions and requirements.

Skills:
  • Language: Capable of reading and interpreting safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedural documents. Can write reports and communicate effectively with customers or employees.
  • Mathematics: Proficiency in calculating percentages, area, circumference, volume, and applying basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning: Able to solve practical problems and interpret various forms of instructions.
  • Computer: Working knowledge of Internet Explorer, AutoCAD, Arcview, Excel, and Word.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License.

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to use hands, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, reach, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
