About the position

The Energy Engineer position focuses on providing critical program support and technical field services for Maryland's energy efficiency programs. The role involves reviewing custom energy efficiency projects, analyzing energy calculations, and building energy models. Energy engineers will also guide customers and contractors in obtaining incentives for their efficiency projects, ensuring effective communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  1. Provide technical assistance and guidance on energy efficient technologies and practices to customers, architects, engineers, contractors, and other trade allies participating in the utility-sponsored programs.
  2. Prepare and review technical specifications and engineering calculations for commercial and industrial energy efficiency measures and projects.
  3. Build and maintain relationships with key market actors in the energy efficiency industry including architects, engineers, contractors, and customers.
  4. Maintain strong ongoing communications with participating service providers and consultants to assess their needs and receive feedback on their experience with the program.
  5. Conduct program trainings as needed for prospective participants.
  6. Assess whole building efficiency strategies, building plans and specifications, and make recommendations for energy efficiency upgrades or improvements.
  7. Prepare status reports to accurately describe activities within projects and monitor progress towards program goals on contractor/consultant participation and the completion of eligible projects.
  8. Coordinate with or follow up on program Quality Assurance activities such as inspections and customer surveys, as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Energy, Building Science, Construction Management or related field (candidates can substitute one year of experience for each year of education).
  • 2+ years of related experience with energy efficiency.
  • 2+ years of experience with energy modeling platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in LEED or GEM credentials.
  • Experience working on successful energy efficiency programs, with specific expertise in energy modeling, energy efficiency technologies and products, and commercial energy issues in both existing buildings and new construction.
  • Experience in the commercial construction industry in Maryland or working with commercial construction at a utility, public agency or non-governmental organization.
  • Knowledge of applicable Maryland's construction building codes and practices.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1.
  • Knowledge of integrated or whole building, building science principles.
  • Knowledge of commercial energy-efficient applications and renewable technologies.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and technologies.
