Position Title: EMT-Basic Instructor

Department: Nursing and Allied Health

Reports To: Dean for Nursing and Health Professions

Position Summary:

Provides instruction for EMS educational offerings, and participates in program planning, implementation, and evaluation. Participates in related projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of EMS educational program offerings.
2. Prepares and delivers instruction and supervises the activities of students during instructional time.
3. Evaluates student performance, provides feedback, and develops learner remediation plans.
4. Fulfills EMS educational program administrative requirements, to include calculation and submission of grades, maintenance or program, course, and student records, and preparation and submission of data and reports.
5. Participates in continuing professional development programs as appropriate.
6. Adheres to established University and departmental policies as appropriate.
7. Participates in activities that promote the EMS Program, to include student recruiting, and program marketing events, as appropriate.
May lead, guide, and train staff/students employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work; may participate in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of an EMS approved EMS instructor course, with at least 2 years of EMS experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure from the State of Arkansas and the National Registry as an EMT-Basic, Advanced, or Paramedic.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

1. Knowledge of EMS theory, practice, and trends.
2. Knowledge of current EMS curricular content and educational standards.
3. Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility
4. Ability to adapt curricula to reflect State requirements, local needs, and national trends.
5. Knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in the State of Arkansas.
6. Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
7. Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
8. Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods.
9. Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
10. Ability adhere to established standards for educational quality.
11. Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational records.
12. Knowledge of EMS educational program approval processes and standards.
Knowledge of the Arkansas Department of Health-EMS Division rules and regulations.
