The Critical Care Technician functions as a clinical support partner in the Critical Care and Emergency Department settings. They assist the patient care team in the performance of various tasks and procedures for the critically ill patient or patients requiring special skills or observation. Are you an experienced EMT looking for a different challenge? We have a new Clinical Decision Unit opening May 27, 2025, at our St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, CO. We offer a Magnet Hospital setting and a great lifestyle within a beautiful, close-knit community.
In the CDU, every shift is different, which is why you need to know how to recognize and address our patients' changing needs. This16-bed unit is dedicated to caring for patients who need more observation after being seen in the Emergency Department, or after a procedure such as cardiac catheterization, endoscopy or a short stay procedure. Each room is private with telemetry monitoring, but bathrooms. Patients will remain in the unit 23 hours or less and will be discharged or admitted based on whether their condition resolves or worsens.
Seasoned RNs and EMTs will staff the unit, and the admitting physicians will provide orders for treatments, discharge or admission. It will streamline patient care by focusing on stabilization, diagnostic evaluation, and timely discharge or admission, and improving hospital-wide patient flow.
As an EMT you will start IVs, perform blood draws, foley insertion and removal, and glucose checks. You will assist patients get to the bathroom or shower.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of Basic EMT training program or Paramedic Training is required in the state of practice
- Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in state of practice is required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS- HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval
- Current IV Certification in state of practice is required
Preferred
- One (1) year of related experience

Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
