Overview of Department

The EMT Apprentice program is a unique opportunity to train, learn, and work in emergency medicine all at the same time. Selected through a competitive process, apprentices receive hands-on EMS experience while completing EMT school and onboarding with CoxHealth EMS. Under the guidance of experienced paramedics and instructors, EMT Apprentices develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to provide lifesaving care in the field. From learning CPR and patient assessment to ambulance operations and emergency response, this program is the perfect launchpad for a career in EMS where every shift brings new challenges, real impact, and the chance to save lives.

Job Summary
  • The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Apprentice will apply learning skills while attending EMT class dedicating the time necessary to successfully complete the EMT training. In addition they will work to complete on boarding and assist Paramedics with providing efficient and immediate care to patients in various emergency and non-emergency situations. Responsible for providing basic medical support including CPR, AED, ventilation, controlling hemorrhaging, as requested etc. to stabilize the patient s condition during onboarding clinical training. The EMT is responsible for documenting all aspects of care provided under their direction by EMS services. Operates the ambulance in various road conditions to safely transport patients to medical facilities.

    • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

    • None
  • Skills
      • Calmly and efficiently perform and make appropriate decisions rapidly under stress in emergency situations.
      • Ability to work outdoors.
      • Ability to follow instructions.
      • Is familiar with age specific needs for the patient population served.
      • Must be 18 years of age
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
      • Missouri Resident: MO Class E license must be obtained during onboarding.
      • MO Non-Resident: Chauffeur s license or Class E equivalent for that state, must be obtained during onboarding
      • BLS due for both within first 90 days of employment.
      • Required: Must obtain Missouri EMT License within 180 days of hire
