PGS Worldwide is seeking a highly experienced Embedded Software Engineer in San Diego, CA, with specialized expertise in System-on-a-Chip (SoC) development. This subject matter expert (SME) will play a strategic, hands-on role in leading embedded software and systems engineering for a next-generation military communications platform. The project is high-visibility and supports both internal IRAD initiatives and external DoD customers, including the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). This is an initial 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity, and I will respond immediately to all qualified candidates.

Job Description:
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of SoC systems for defense-grade communication technologies.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary engineering teams in both office and lab environments.
  • Act as a technical authority on software-defined radio (SDR) systems and SoC architecture.
  • Provide strategic insight and long-term vision to support rapid capability development.
  • Ensure software and hardware integration meets operational and security requirements.
Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced, agile development environment with over 100 FTEs.
  • High operational tempo and objective-oriented culture.
  • No formal training - this role requires a seasoned engineering expert ready to lead.
Note: All candidates must be local to San Diego, CA - remote work is not permitted for this role.

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Master's degree in a STEM discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, etc.)
  • 15+ years of experience in embedded software and SoC architecture.
  • Proven expertise across the full lifecycle of System-on-a-Chip (SoC) development.
  • Prior experience with software-defined radios (SDRs).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Desired:
  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Familiarity with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset development.
  • Previous experience supporting high-priority defense or aerospace programs.
