Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal or Senior Principal Electronics Engineer - Communications Architect to support our Communications Hardware Development team. This position is within the Avionics Integration organization and is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. As part of the Communications Hardware Development Team the selected candidate will report to the Communications Hardware Team within the Mission Systems IPT and will support the Comms Hardware Development Lead and team in its tasking. The successful candidate will a self-directed technical performer with strong communication skills, demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary technical trades, and ability to develop & execute to a strategy. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: System integration, test development and execution of various types of complex communications systems
Create and develop documentation for system requirements and interfaces, including system engineering drawings and diagrams
Serve as an interface between the Operation & Test organization and the engineers
Ensure communication system performance meets specified levels
Contribute to improvement of processes, design and future sustainment efforts
Actively participate in Program Risk and Opportunity Management
Actively participate in Basis of Estimate (BOE), Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM), and proposal development
Perform/support design reviews, or reviews of design related documentation (ICDs, system and subsystem design documents, etc.)
Perform laboratory and flight test planning and execution
Perform change management and engineering change proposal (ECP) duties, including preparation, analysis, planning and execution The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. Once established in role, this position could offer a hybrid work environment. Scheduled telework days are approved at manager's discretion. This position requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time. This position may be filled at either the Principal Electronics Engineer (level 3) or Senior Principal Electronics Engineer (level 4), depending upon the qualifications below. Basic Qualifications: Principal: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline.
Sr Principal: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related engineering experience.
Experience with communications technologies, such as Internet Protocol (IP) networks, Voice over IP (VoIP), Information Assurance (IA), satellite, and Line-of-Sight (LOS) RF communications, control interfaces, and/or co-site interference analysis/resolution
Active in-scope, DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs Preferred Qualifications: Active in-scope, DoD Top Secret clearance
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Systems Engineering with an emphasis in RF communications or computer networks
Working knowledge of US DoD Communication systems such as ARC-210 radios for supporting autonomous aircraft voice systems
Working knowledge of Link-16 (MIDS / JTRS) and other tactical data links
Working knowledge of Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) communication systems
Working knowledge of Cybersecurity implementation and Risk Management Framework
Knowledge of Software Defect Management and Management Tools (DOORS, ClearQuest, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work confidently in a high-pressure environment, while interacting with all levels of staff from flight-line and field technicians to executive management
Ability to perform duties with limited supervision, excellent initiative and attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
