Electronic Integrated Control Systems Technician (Industrial Controls) Job Specification:

Introduction

UConn's Facilities Operations Department, Storrs Campus, has five job openings for Electronic Integrated Control Systems (EICS) Technicians (Industrial Controls) positions. The Cogeneration Plant produces high-pressure superheated steam, electrical power and chilled water to supply energy to its Storrs campus. The plant has three 7 MW Solar combustion turbines as well as a 5 MW steam turbine and associated support equipment. In addition, a new Supplemental Utility Plant has been brought online and four chillers are operational within the facility, and one boiler will be going through commissioning soon. Technicians will also be responsible for performing tasks at the South Campus Geothermal System and Chiller Plant which is currently under construction and expected to be operating in late 2027.

These positions are permanent, full-time positions; these positions report to a Lead Power Plant Operator. These positions are 1st Shift positions with a work schedule of Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with an unpaid half an hour for lunch. The hourly rate of pay is $41.33 and is non-negotiable for those new to State employment; the hourly rate of pay for current NP-2 employees is calculated based on current salary/step.

These positions are categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or for significant events that affect campus operations. Applicants must also be willing to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends or holidays). Applicants must possess a current motor vehicle operator license. Applicants must be lawfully permitted to work in the United States.

Please note that Facilities Operations NP-2 employees may also be required to perform job duties as assigned at any of the Regional Campuses.

Examples of Duties
•  Performs highly skilled duties in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of multiple buildings, distribution infrastructure, and/or power plant equipment for safe operation and production, distribution, and consumption of high pressure superheated steam, electrical power and chilled water to meet campus energy needs;
•  Works on campus to check and ensure reliable operation of equipment and to detect faulty or erratic operation of systems through excessive vibration, abnormal noises, extreme temperatures and/or leakages
•  Monitors, calibrates and repairs gauges and other devices to standards and records performance indicators on log deficiency reports;
•  Coordinates equipment abnormalities reports and assists in diagnosis;
•  Performs preventative maintenance repairs;
•  Performs other related tasks as required and/or assigned. Knowledge, Skill and Ability

•  Ability to utilize computer software. Minimum Qualifications - General Experience

Five (5) years of experience in installation assistance, monitoring, instrumentation calibration, maintenance, repair and programming of electronic industrial controls which are integrated into a distributed control system (DCS) within an industrial, commercial, military, government, large healthcare complex or a production oriented environment.

Minimum Qualifications - Substitutions Allowed
•  Successful completion of an Electronic Integrated Control Systems Trainee program may be substituted for the General Experience. A maximum of two (2) years may be substituted for the following:
•  Graduation from a two (2) year vocational or technical school designating completion of subject requirements in electronic integrated systems/maintenance technology or related field may be substituted for two (2) years of General Experience.
•  College training in electronics or electrical/mechanical engineering or a related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years. Preferred Qualifications

•  State of Connecticut Trades License preferably in one or more of the following specific trades: Heating, Piping and Cooling, Electrical, Plumbing and Heating, and/or an OE2 License (Heating, Piping and Cooling Operating Engineer Journeyperson).
