Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 (based on experience and education)
Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, the Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer will lead and contribute to the design, development, and improvement of electro-mechanical components, primarily aerospace grade contactors. This position involves in depth technical evaluation, troubleshooting of field and production failures, and root-cause investigations. The specialist will drive product enhancements, lead engineering analysis efforts, and ensure alignment with performance, cost, and reliability targets. The role also requires cross-functional collaboration to support project management, design documentation, product qualification, and technical proposal development.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations for field and production issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide engineering support for legacy product lines, including upgrades, obsolescence management, and technical guidance to operations.
- Design magnetic coils and high-power contactors, including creation of detailed 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings.
- Select and specify materials (e.g., magnetic, contact, insulation) based on application-specific performance and environmental conditions.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to create assembly instructions and support production readiness.
- Conduct electromagnetic and thermal simulations using tools like ANSYS to validate performance.
- Apply design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturability principles during product development.
- Prepare and review technical documentation including specifications, test procedures, BOMs, and qualification plans.
- Lead or contribute to internal and external design reviews.
- Support proposal development and technical input for new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with systems engineering on requirement reviews and ensure alignment of mechanical design with system-level needs.
- Ensure compliance with industry and aerospace environmental standards.
- Perform prototype evaluation, qualification testing, and product performance validation.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 8-12 years of experience in electro-mechanical design and development, preferably in the aerospace industry.
- Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and product improvement for electro-mechanical systems.
- At least 5 years of experience with 3D solid modeling (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
- Working knowledge of electromagnetic component design (coils, solenoids, actuators, etc.).
- Proficient in engineering analysis and simulations (e.g., magnetic, structural, or thermal).
- Willingness to travel up to 5% for customer support or field investigations.
