Title: Electrical Hardware Engineer
Location: Hollywood, Maryland - Hybrid - Relocation Available. Overview: Currently seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer to work as a member of the Product Engineering Team to develop hardware-based product solutions focused on telemetry and electronic communications technologies.
Responsibilities: - Formulate hardware design specifications based on requirements or conceptual sketches.
- Conduct technical planning, circuit-level design, implementation, verification, formal acceptance, and production tests.
- Undertake system-level analysis, covering concept, design, fabrication, testing, installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Ensure the systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into solutions that align with technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Conduct functional analysis, timing analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition to meet customer specifications.
- Lead and actively engage in hardware design, encompassing architecture planning, generation of functional block diagrams, state diagrams, and schematics.
- Perform design analysis, including circuit modeling and simulation, FPGA simulations, signal integrity modeling, power analysis, failure mode analysis, and manufacturability analysis.
- Implement the design, overseeing layout, supporting procurement of the first article, and debugging the initial build.
- Draft and review design, release, and support documentation, such as design review documents, production manuals, interface control documents, and test procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments for system integration, software integration, testing, and production throughout the design process.
- Support colleague development efforts and seek assistance when necessary or appropriate.
- Provide maintenance support for existing products, including adding enhancements, addressing parts obsolescence, and implementing corrective actions.
- Execute tasks in accordance with Quality Management System (QMS) processes and procedures.
Required Skills: - Proficiency in PCI Express, DDR, or other high-speed interfaces, with a preference for practical experience.
- Understanding of Ethernet, specifically at the physical layer, with a preference for practical experience.
- Familiarity with fundamental serial communication interfaces like I2C and USB, with a preference for practical experience.
- Knowledge of SoC FPGA design, with a preference for practical experience.
- Hands-on experience in the design and debugging of HDL coding (VHDL or Verilog), focusing on communication signal processing and low latency processing.
- Strong grasp of practical techniques for noise reduction/control and electrical susceptibility immunity.
- Proven track record of successfully completed design projects.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse team and across multiple departments.
- Skill in driving projects to success within a standard process framework with minimal oversight.
- Clear and concise communication abilities.
- Proficiency in validating requirements and synthesizing intricate technical details to design effective solutions.
- Capability to resolve technical issues spanning multiple technical and functional areas.
- Experience using basic lab equipment, including oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Efficiently drive a successful product development cycle from concept to production.
Experience: - In-depth expertise in hardware technologies, backed by 7 years of pertinent industry experience.
- Proven track record of successfully closing timing on FPGA designs.
- Familiarity with fundamental DSP functional blocks, including filtering and FFT.
- Prior experience in conducting high-speed signal integrity analysis.
- Proficient in RF design and debugging techniques.
- Exposure to and hands-on experience with EMC/EMI and Environmental qualification processes.
- Scripting proficiency, particularly in Python, for the development of debug tools and testing.
