Operations Electrical Engineer - New York Operations Work Location: Watertown or Fulton, NY Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Operations, the Operations Electrical Engineer will plan, organize, and direct engineering activities to update and optimize hydropower facilities throughout New York State. Responsibilities Manage the design, specification, cost, construction, and commissioning of capital improvement projects relating to electrical power generation and electrical distribution up to 115KV. Prepare tendering documents, reviews and comments on bid packages to ensure design adequacy, electrical code compliance and constructability. Assist operations and compliance staff to ensure NERC and NPCC regulatory compliance. Provide operations staff with electrical safety training and act as subject matter expert for lock out tag out, arc flash analysis and identifying electrical safe work practices required for compliance with OSHA standards. Provide engineering support to operational staff to improve reliability and performance. Support will involve troubleshooting of equipment and determination of failures. Manage internal and external engineering resources to develop documents needed for construction and permitting. Work with the interconnecting utility to determine root cause for system faults or disturbances. Provide field inspection of all work in place to ensure that work performed is in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes. Recommends corrective courses of action to management as issues arise. Apply the Brookfield Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures to all projects. Manage contracted work within the requirements. Provide cost control and monthly spending forecasts on assigned projects. Ensure engineering records are accurate, properly updated and stored for future reference. Review and analyze preventative maintenance reports and test results to plan and prioritize budgeted work for implementation. Provide input in capital and operation expense budgeting. Requirements Familiarity with power generation equipment including transformers, generators, AC and DC control systems, relay protection and power distribution systems including high and low voltage distribution, up to 115kV. Strong time management skills with the ability to organize, plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team and to manage concurrent projects. Good negotiation skills with clients, contractors, and vendors. Effective oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to view tasks logically, break them down into essential requirements, and generate a solution to meet the project goals. A practical, adaptable, innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused approach to issues. Be available for calls during power system disruptions to aid in problem solving and supervise repairs Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent required. Professional Engineers license not required but is desirable. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in progressive experience in electrical engineering. Core knowledge of construction techniques, construction/project management, and basic contract administration. Familiarity with the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code and NFPA 70E standards. Ability to travel within New York State. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Valid NYS driver's license. Pay Range: $80k-140k/yr. with bonus
